Does sound rather fishy,

I would come and help Sam as I'm not a million miles away but I wouldn't know what to do if the rods are bent:confused:
change 'em I suppose.

any help would be great please i am at a total loss on what to do apart from put it on ebay as scrap x

before you do anything get on fleabay and invest a tenner in a haynes workshop manual then read the bit on changing the belt.
then use google and youtube youll then know whats what, even if you dont actually tackle it alone youll get some idea of whats yer help is doing and how competent they are.

If you have the time Barmatt,I would just re-align it to the timing marks and pins first,to see how it sounds-might get away with it.If you are lucky might be pump too far advanced causing diesel knock-If you do go,show her what you are doing so she learns for herself for next time

Can't get there today, working. Earliest I could go is Wednesday.

There must be someone nearer Cambridge than me (70 miles from here) that can go help a lady in distress.

Yes that's right LZ'ers, a LADY in distress!

awaiting stampede..............................

If your dad fitted another pump, cannot he re-time the engine for you?It really is an easy engine to time up and 5 days to start tells you something is way out-do not attempt further running until it is set up correctly-if it is just mis timed, could have it running properly in an hour assuming nothing is damaged

Don't mind the drive as I can pop in and see my lil' sis in Ely, let us know what the mechanic says and take it from there. I wouldn't worry too much there's not much that can't be fixed.

I'm no expert by any means but there's a wealth of knowledge and assistance on landyzone that has helped me many times, so always willing to return the karma. :)

I would be very surprised if there was anything wrong with the original pump-those bosch pumps normally out live the engine-they are almost bullet proof.
But ,do you know if when he changed the pump, did he also swap over the drive sprocket(bit the cam belt sits on),for if he did it may not have been fitted in right place, there is no key way on these and changing the sprocket is critical to get it absolutely correct.

so he bust pump casing ,probably by trying to turn it over with pin still in ,

just spoke to dad and the pump the bloke fitted did NOT have the bit that the pulley bolts onto on the pump dad thinks that the timing on the pump is out badly does this mean i need a new pump

there are some very good mechanics out there and some very good diyers that could match them on specific models ,but there are a lot of poor mechanics with poor knowledge too ,for the next time you need to find someone who knows what there doing and trust worthy ,ask a good few questions about a particular job and check there answers on here ,it will help sort the wheat from the chaff

it will be out in that case then you will need someone who has knowledge on pumps to reset it or competent person who can take instruction
