The standard one is a nice system and costs a lot less.
Yeah, but if you're gonna burn all that fuel you may as well make a nice noise doing so!

Very good, you will need the cash you are saving when it blows up.
Yep, I drive a P38 coz I want to - not becasue I can't afford anything else. If my engine goes bang then I'll fit a top-hat liner block which will cost more than I paid for my car (£2K) coz I love the car and enjoy driving it.Maybe so but that is the risk you take with a rover V8 granted. If it does i'll have to bite the bullet & go for a top hat block.
At the end of the day it's what you want out of the driving experience. I'm not after lots of power ( have the wifeys car for that), just the confidence that it's there when i need it, & the refinement of the V8 for me is priority.

Approaching 4 years on my hatted v8, runs like a sewing machine. Have test driven a couple of DSE's recently. No comparison, although yes probably not as good examples as those owned on here.
Personally I find the uneven beat of V8's annoying and in a car like this I want silence. The engine is inaudible on my diesel except at idle and then it's only noticable when cold especially since I fitted the new exhaust.Reading this with interest. Some of the diseasel boys seem to have a bit of a shoulder chip going on...
Frankly one of the principle attractions of Range Rover ownership for me is the V8 element. Throaty roar over tractor clatter any day. Just my opinion of course, others are entitled to theirs.
Uneven beat? That sounds like a poorly V8.
Before my Janspeed went on you couldn't even tell mine was ticking over.
How anyone can prefer an agricultural p38 diesel sound & feel over a V8 is totally beyond me....& i've owned plenty of diesels to compare against.
All my diesels were new (company cars)
Disco 3
Touareg
& an L322 for 3 months (2 1/2 years old) to name a few.
I never had an issue with these engines (the Disco 3 2.7 was a bit lack lustre, but it was a heavy beast) which i guess is why i got such a shock when i test drove P38 diesels.
As i said, each to their own & depends what your used to i guess
Fair do
Anyway, back to subject...............the Janspeed is a bloody good system
Janspeed have been around a long time since early sixties i think.
I put a Janspeed full system on my classic, fantastic sound without being chav. Was prone to rusting quick as I couldn't afford a stainless one back then, presume the are more resistant these days.
A V8 is nothing more than a male penis enhancer, you all think you look big with a V8.Uneven beat? That sounds like a poorly V8.

The so called V8 burble you go on about just sounds annoying to me.
