As you know I love this forum and I love talking Landies and I wasn't going to whinge about this next little problem but I thought what the hell, someone on here will know a quick fix won't you? Please?

My sat nav didn't work work when I got the car (mk 3 cd based one) and after a bit of investigation, there was no disc in it! After doing a bit of searching on here, I found someone's download link and popped in the dvd and it still didn't work hence why I discovered that was the mk 4 unit. Anyway, it didn't want to give me the disc back which I assumed because maybe a dvd was thicker than a cd and it confused the system so after creating a set of metal chopsticks with our cutlery (Boy was i popular that day) and got the disc out. After taking the plunge and buying a cd for £25 I raced out to the car to put it in and it didn't even want to take the disc. I made a backup copy just in case the chopsticks had to be used again, slammed the disc in and it spins, it tries but it doesn't register on the head unit that it's there.

So gurus, anyone ever come across this?

It's not high on my to do list as I have sat nav on other devices but it would be nice to have someone buttons to press to justify the new battery and alternator as they can take it. I won't be going down the route of upgrading to a mk 4 or anything but if there's any cheap fixes or exchange units I would consider it. There's got to be someone on here who is to sat nav what Bemble is to gearboxes :)

If the Battery was disconnected or the Sat Nav unit disconnected without waiting for the 3 minute shutdown period, this can cause damage to the internal chippy thingies as it uses this 3 minute window to write information to the ROM or EPROM or whatever it is called!

I still have my old Mk3 Unit and Disc in the garage after upgrading to the Mk4 unit (which I highly recommend by the way) so if you want it, cover the postage and pop a donation in a charity box at Tesco you are more than welcome!

Then you sir truly are a Saint and I would love to take you up on that offer.

You name the charity and they'll see someone wedge a few notes in the tin on the counter. Someone kindly handed my Freelander keys in when I lost them the other month and wouldn't take a reward so in his name, I set the queue off talking in the local chippie when I forced a few notes into the top of Sooty's head for the blind!!!
