I'm learning the hard way that when the L322 was designed, the engineering team at LR were smoking crack that day.
It's like this....
ABS fault light will be an MOT failure so needs fixing
Fault codes say Steering sensor is most likely to blame
(also another reason why the air goes offline).
Go to remove the SAS, can't because the steering column adjusters are inactive and can't get to the bolts
Steering motor control is most likely damaged due to a previous owners seat fire
P.O. fitted replacement Vogue SE seats (this is a Vogue) which have a different seat memory module (OK, not LR's fault on that one..)
Seat ECU doesn't seem to be mapped to the car
Seat ECU won't map anyway as the column motors won't move to calibrate
Remove airbag (eventually)
Remove steering wheel
Remove stem controls (column toggle switch needs replacing anyway as looks like a burned twiglet)
Find manual override on stepper drive gear to turn it all the way out, in doing so 20yr old plastic motor carrier breaks off
Eventually remove steering pinch bolt after much swearing and several cuppa's
Eventually remove column carrier bolts after even more swearing and tea
Remove entire steering column as it now needs to come out anyway to fix the broken stepper runner
Eventually get to put the SAS on the bench where it fundamentally looks OK anyway, replacement arriving tomorrow regardless
Start to mess about with the seat controller as have the original one (PO had kept it) to realise it won't fit onto an SE seat as the trim is different...
Won't stand a chance of getting the whole column assembly back in without it being all moving as designed..
Hoping some 2part resin and some reinforcing mesh will hold the motor runner back together again.
So in order to fix a 'fault' with the brakes, I first have to fix the drivers seat.
