Finally, an answer rather than just saying it's the head with no reason. I still don't think it is the head on the vehicle in question though which isn't a td5 either. May I add this is my personal opinion and I'm more than willing to be proven wrong.
it is possible ive done upwards of 1000 miles with about a litre of water .i realised , toped up and bled .. it then boiled itself followed by steaming like a kettle frm exhaust along with black sooty water . being in the middle of now wer ,in the middle of the night and BEIN A **** i decided to try and drive home 50miles . water ran out , running fine temp fine(obviuosly air temp) .
so basically it run fine until you add water ?
150 miles and still ok , looking at a new lump i think , if i had melted piston , how would this affect coolant and let it into cylinder ?
What make was the HG that you fitted?
elring 3 holer , torqued up properly in the 4 stages cheers phil

ok the enevitable happened and the temporary fix has now give up .
managed 2 days bak to work ,200mile
so im bak to deciding the fate of this motor .
i dnt have much money left now and im a bit stuck .
im confident in the head gasket and fitting but how can i diagnose head/block /problem? is it worth further investigation ?
ok ive tried this and there is no sign of any vapour ,no gasses comin out?
you wont see oil or water as it'll be a vapour.
should be able to feel it tho.
run till warm with rad cap on.
if its clear, i'll try an think of summat else.
yes symptons are exactly same as before only not burning oil now . HG replacement may of stopped this , as prevoius overheating may of caused HG failureAre the symptoms the same as before you took the head off?

unfortunately got all signs of head / gasket.
my course of action now would be to remove head and have a closer inspection of the cylinder liners, possibly get head pressure tested again at a different place.
decide then as to where to go next.
would appear not at this moment in time! Not the Helicoils then ?
