A little bit of a silly question but can you fit the thermostat incorrectly?

My 200tdi 90 always ran up to temp without a thermostat and the electric fan kicked in a few times, the rad was shot so after replacing the rad this week and refitting a thermostat that i tested in a pan of hot water on the cooker before fitting.

Now the truck blows luke warm air ( I'm guessing that the rad it doing its job) and only went up past the blue when off roading and really giving it some beans to get out. (td5 dash &gauges)

I thought it was the new rad was super efficient.. It did get to temp when worked hard but before that nothing just luke warm...

Ill get another ordered for my disco 200tdi engine this week as well as another set of door hinges. Im sure they have a limit of 100 open and closes before the pin decides to give up...

If your engine always got up to temp with no stat and the fan kicking in then it shows just how shot your rad was and that it was providing no cooling whatsoever.

RJ Land Rovers did have a large stock of genuine take-off hinges at a very reasonable price, might be worth dropping them a line as at least that way you know you are getting the genuine article? My genuine ones lasted 15-years before I detected pin wear (O/S only) so replaced them with some Optimill ones.
I was going to get some take-off's but they would have needed painting and hey, the Optimill items look so good!

My 200 tdi has always only blown out luke warm air through the heater and I have done everything. Changed three thermostats, one was an 88 degree. Removed the Visco's fan altogether, Replaced Rad and Heater Matrix, Ran it with a Kenlowe fan, Now gone back to a new Visco's fan. Flushed out the system twice. On one occasion when I had removed the fan I drove down to Montpellier in the South of France in 35C The engine temperature only moved towards the red whilst I was going up a long slow hill. I went through three sender unites from Britpart, then I got one from Bearmarch. I have also stripped the heater box and cleaned it out then resealed it. The temp gauge just sits slightly below the halfway mark unless worked hard then it might get up to the halfway mark. I have bought a 300 W electric ceramic heater which helps and a new coat as I have given up trying to sort the heater out. Oh, also bought new door seals.

Swapped the stat today along with a list of other jobs to do. My tubular wings are sat in the shed ready to be welded together so when I get around to that I'm gonna see if I can adjust the bulkhead slightly forward to help the doors a little.

Mine takes about 10 mins of driving first thing in morning to reach normal temp. That's with an alloy rad and no fans fitted. Heater blows lurvley hot air when up to temp. Td5 gauges aswell and sits under half where it should be. Hope this helps.

Change the stat see what the gauge does if it moves back to under half at normal running temp. I had it with mine & td5 gauge it was reading cold like yours was the wrong thermostat was a hot climate one so opened a lot earlier, and the gauge always read 1/4 (just above blue like yours) changed it for normal stat and works fine now..

awesome. its got a bear mach 88 deg stat in it now. i dont mind it being cold as i only use the truck as a toy and nipping places when the mrs takes the car. i think the previous rad was absolutely fooked and this new one actually cools the truck now.

New stat in and she gets lovely and warm within a few miles now. Temp doesn't move past half way and the fan only cuts in when off roading and slogging the guts out of it for a long period I.e stuck up to the knackers in mud and sand. Happy days
