Ok I've put the diagnostics on, it comes back with rear left sensor shorting to another, so I'll get on with changing that and clear the faults, I wonder if it's going to be that simple

The only place it is possible for one sensor to short to another is either on plug C0505 to ECU or in ECU itself. Unless you have two chaffed wires rubbing together in loom and that is unlikely. You will have to drop glove box to find ABS ECU.
 
Already checked the connector to the ecu, all good there, I get your point of it being the ecu itself as I can't clear the faults but I'll start with the sensor first as I'm getting no voltage from that one already got one so no harm fitting it, if that fails I'll get a new ecu, :(

If you are not getting 5 volts at the sensor plug or 5 volts at that particular sensors input and output pins on the ECU it will be the ECU
 
It's the ECU - I've repaired about 5 of them now all with the same fault - 'Rear Left Sensor short to another sensor'

The fault is some of the SMD components on the input side for the sensors in the ECU. I have 2 that I repaired last week on my bench to road test on Monday, and then they will be made available to owners. I'm currently doing them for £99 plus a core charge, which is refunded on return of the old one. Trying to make it competitive to the cost of second hand ones on the likes of eBay.

Also, even though it's only the Rear/Left sensor that has the fault, I replace the input components for all 4 corner sensors too.

Drop me a message if you're interested in a repaired one. I have them listed on my website, but I can keep one aside for you before I list them up for general sale.
 
That's a much better price than ebay and you never know if you're getting a good one, I'll take you up on that, the part number is 100500 if that makes it easier let me know how to pay and I'll get the old one sent off to you

I'll drop you a PM with my address details, and all that - I'm heading back home from work tonight, and will be putting both of the ones I have repaired into my P38 tomorrow for road testing.

I think both of the units I have here are SRD100501 - but they are compatible, the parts trees show SRD100290, SRD100500, SRD100501 as being the 3 part numbers for the later ABS ECU's - and the -500 and -501 supercede the others meaning they are backwards compatible.

I'll message you now, and we can go from there.

I slant more towards electronics - my dad is an electronics technician by trade, so I get it from him!

It took me a fair while to figure out the issue with the ABS ECU's, and after having seen for awhile that the problem was fairly common, I figured it was worth a shot at trying to see if they are repairable... my motivation came from my own P38 when I got home from a fairly long journey, with no issues at all, and upon turning the key off, "ABS FAULT" popped up on the dash...

Nanocom reported 'Rear Left sensor short to another sensor' so I checked/replaced sensor - same again... and then figured it was the ECU, so decided that was time to pull the ECU apart and investigate!!
 
Glad I could help... The ABS ECU fault on these has been bugging me for years, I'm just glad it's something repairable... I just needed the inspiration/kick of my one doing it to get me to take a proper look at it!
