OK... have now got a lovely tapping sound coming from what seems to be the gearbox to add to my abnormally loud fuel pump (working on sorting that out)!! A little distressing as its disturbing my enjoyment of hearing the thud of insects hitting the windscreen on these beautiful summer days or the sound of the portable hurricane force winds that appear from nowhere as I approach 50MPH!!
Any ideas?... clutch, flywheel, the whole gearbox or something else? the tapping is present in all gears (but louder in some), doesn't really disappear when dipping the clutch, but changes gears OK (can be temperamental after driving for a while and might need a little nudge, but hey its a defender!).
Its a 2000 TD5 so has an R380 and has only done 90K... yes I know I could have a professional come out and look at it, but I thought I'd ask those who understand these fine machines first, before watching somebody breath sharply through their teeth, rub their chin and mutter the words "it gonna cost ya"
Thanks as always
