Terrain Response - Special Program are ON at Start Up

Finding that about 50% of the time, and for no obvious reason, that the Terrain Response is in the second terrain response setting instead of the first ( default) one. Easy to fix by turning the selector knob but annoying 'cos it was ok before I did my first bit of off-roading and used the terrain response.
Any suggestions gratefully received !

obviously some water ingress into the wiring loom, you will be expecting some nasty blue corrosion in the wiring connectors before long.
