I ground the end of the spring as it's sharp edge was picking up on the aluminium. I ground a lead-in chamfer on the spring and added some copperslip to the ally casting.

That's exactly the issue I've got. Grinding the spring removes the paint which allows rust so that's the issue I had BUT it's what I'll have to do!
 
Just found this thread and realised I hadn't added a conclusion. Well the damper has been on for more than a couple of months and it's helped the stability I would say. The pan hard rod bushes were done at the same time so I can't be sure they haven't changed things as well but they were worn when I still had the original tyres and no issues. All in all it's doing its job and handling the larger tyres so I'm happy with it.
