Hi hoping someone can help
The temp gauge on 1997 4.6 HSE goes to beginning of blue section when ignition is turned on.
Once car has been started and well and truly warmed up the guage has not moved at ALL
Even removing wire from sensor makes no difference or grounding sensor wire
The reading stays the same
Thank you

Welcome. The gauge can be tested with diagnostics such as Nanocom, the sensor can also be checked.
It's likely to be the sensor has failed.

Ok I have swapped sensor from another 97 that’s working correctly
Same result
I don’t have nanocom
I wasn’t game to swap cluster in case the kms change or worse
Cause car to immobilise
Thanks

As long as the new cluster you fit is at less miles than your cluster all will be fine. If you fit a cluster with more mileage showing than your present one, that mileage will be written to BECM. And would become the recorded mileage.

I have access to a 2001 cluster will that still work in my 1997
Thanks

Or should I try swapping bcm and cluster together from another 97
That would tell if it’s wiring issue or not
Or will that cause havoc with immobiliser

To be honest, I would just turn on the heater to check if engine was overheating and open window when you get too hot.
Or stick sensor in a pan of boiling water and check with DVM?

Turning the heater on in Australia’s summer instead of fixing the guage?
That’s the dumbest idea sorry.
As I have said sensor has been changed, the old one was also put in other car and it works fine.
Was hoping some one had struck this before and had some pointers.
Unfortunately don’t have access to nanocom.

Thats just what I would do and is much colder here. Never clocked the Sydney bit.
Will go and stand in corner
No problem even if I was in a colder climate I would like the temp gauge working especially when usually a overheated 4.6 ends in catastrophe.
I wonder why now is it because people think that the temp gauge as irrelevant that you see so many P38 with stuffed motors?
Hopefully someone has some useful pointers on fixing temp gauge, without having to chase an elusive unicorn I mean nanocom.
As for nanocom where the hell do you buy one and roughly how much?
Thanks

Blackbox Solutions for nanocom. Good website. based in Cyprus
Very approximately £350 and is dedicated to type of vehicle. Other vehicles / engines about £50 a shot

Ok will check that, but with what’s happening in the world atm I doubt that I would see it quickly.
Keep it in mind, what was last sentence about £50 a shot?
Does nanocom only do one car?

yes or at least one type of car
For example mine does a GEMS P38.
Costs another approx £50 to do a THOR P38
It is not dedicated to the VIN No.
