Desperately hoping someone can help with this as it really is driving me nuts!!
I bought my wife a smart looking Disco 2 53 plate landmark as a surprise xmas present 2 years ago now.. Looks the part & she loves it to tow the horse around with.. Box ticked..
Realised after a heavy downpour that it leaks like a seive.. never mind, nothing is perfect..
It's been in constant weekly use until a few weeks ago when it had about 2 weeks downtime.. Wouldn't start, tried charging battery but was duff so purchased a new one, fitted & boom started up a treat.
Wife took it to work fine, went to start it to come home, alarm went off & it wouldn't do a thing. Disconnected battery for 30secs & then it fired up fine. Since that it was used a couple of times without issue but then the alarm started going off again intermittently. Spoke to few people - sadly it never came with the EKA code; "hindsight is a wonderful thing" ... to cut a long story short the ECU has now been de-immobilized so it will run but the hazards/alarm keeps going off (horn is also now temporarily disconnected) .. Then thought the leaking has done some damage so have had the body control unit checked & all seems intact.
Latest try tonight after research on here was the inertia switch... it seemed fixed!! 30 mins later it is now completely dead - can't even open the door turning the key..
Is it doomed?
Any info or help would be very gratefully received.

Does the key turn really easy in the drivers door lock both ways?

When was the battery replaced? is there a chance it has been run down ?

My local main dealer is getting my EKA from Land Rover for me. They will pass it on to me when I am there collecting a new part next week.
 
New battery was fitted a week before xmas & is definitely good - alarm light is flashing every 2 secs on dash.

YES! The key turns easily both ways which started tonight??
 
Who "de-immobilised" your ecu? I totally disabled the alarm and immobiliser myself using a Hawkeye, so it will never alarm and always start, as a temporary relief until I fix what my problem is, but correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the drivers door work just on the key separately as well as the central locking? As my central locking currently isn't working but even though I can open the doors the drivers will always open regardless by mechanical means from the key, so in that case you would be unlucky enough to have a failed door lock all at once! Otherwise I'd assume your drivers door could open just on key :)

If it turns easy , as if there is no resistance then it sounds like the bar between the key barrel and the mechanism has snapped, it is a common fault on the car, they are made of monkey metal. Mine did it as well. Luckily I had the use of the fob.

If this is the case then you may be in trouble, Did your fob work ?

IMO it's IDM(interior fusebox) or BCU failure, water ingress can hurt both, i cant tell which one but according to the symptoms seems more like BCU to me, the only way to rule them out is to visually inspect them first maybe you see where water caused damage and if no sign replace the fusebox first cos it's plug and play, the BCU needs complex programming with tester unless you send your's to be fixed

Problem he has to overcome before that, is getting into the vehicle. The door lock is not working.

Then , I would like to understand how it was de-immobilised considering the dash light is still flashing . Maybe just a misunderstanding of how the system works.

But, I would suspect the root cause could well be water / corrosion into one of the boxes you have mentioned .

Have managed to open the door with fob, it started working again for some reason, key still does nothing, have removed lock and found a rod had brocken from the lock tumbler. I tried to remove roll pin to make a new rod and the whole thing fell to bits do to corrosion and poor quality metal.
I'll probably have to sell a kidney now to pay for a new one

Good news,

Now you can look at what Sierrafery has written. Also, have a search to see if anyone local has a nanocom or Hawkeye as you may need their help.

Door barrels including the handle and rod are cheap as chips, just find a breaker. Although I would be tempted to make a replacement rod as my other post shows.

If the lock barrel itself is OK, then you can change the barrel so the key is the same as the ignition. Very easy to do.

Then make sure you know the EKA code.

Water on the back of the volumetric alarm sensors caused all sorts of issues with ours before we got the sunroofs sorted out.

So.. I've managed to fix the lock with the help of a second hand one & have easily obtained the EKA code via main dealer - to my surprise I followed the instructions to reset it & voila the alarm has stopped going off! Hearing the 2 beeps of it's a match was very pleasing..
So it all now seems back to normal apart the key fob not unlocking/locking..?!
Judging by the photos from listerdiesel I figure this is my next step to investigate. Oh & of course sealing up the sunroofs..

Nice work,

As Per my write up attached earlier. Double check the fob led is lighting up.

Check the RF receiver , as these are prone to failure.

For the sunroofs,

Check the drains.
Remove the frame and seal the outside of it against the outside of the roof.
Also remove the roof rails and seal them as well.
Check Alpine windows.
Check front windscreen top corners and edges.

the pic from listerdiesel is the volumetric sensor, it has nothing to do with the remote lock/unlock command... that fault would eventually trigger the alarm randomly and withoiut reason after the car was locked with fob, if the fob doesnt work and you lock with the key the volumetric alarm is disabled anyway... check the RF roof receiver in front of the rear sunroof
 
It is possible to switch off the volumetric sensing using a daignostic unit.

I have never looked to see if they are plug and play units, I would guess and it is a guess that they are. ( prepared to be proven wrong on that) Can you not borrow a couple of another D2 owner for a test, you could even borrow the RF receiver as well.

Have you ever found out how it was "de-immobilised" as you put it?
