Doesn't sound too far off- remember that when the vehicle has comparable aerodynamic properties to the factory that it was built in, there's only so much you can do.

I had a 2.4 TDCi 110 for 3 years.

Yes, that's how it works.
New ford transit at work, 2.2tdci with stop start and all the bells and whistles=21mpg
My old bag of crap transit with 3.5 engine= 23mpg.
Progress is a marvellous thing.

I don't like Ford diesel engines, my Transit Connect 1.8 110ps did about 10 mpg less than my mate's similar VW Caddy 1.6 diesel 104hp
Plus it never ran perfect.
Modern diesels CAN run properly and respond instantly to the throttle. As l realise every time l drive my Defender TD5

My 2.5 N/A averages 30mpg with a mix of long and short runs. 35mpg is possible on a long run.

The Tdci is about on par with the Tdi/2.5TD fuel wise.
Midd'ish 20's depending on how you drive and types of roads.

Im getting avg 28mpg around town 30 - 32 motorway. In a TD5 90 with a cage, sliders and all sorts so your puma should be doing better!

32mpg from a Td5 in Defender is pretty good. But it seems the Puma is generally slightly less fuel efficient.

Looks like the NEDC combined figure for the 2.2 is 25mpg:

And 28mpg for the Td5:

I am indeed! haha. Filling tank fully then checking the trip comp when it reaches the final white line on the gauge before it gets into the yellow area.
Then punch the numbers into an app.
Uses fuel cost, fuel cost per liter, miles driven to give mpg.
Now it has a new MAF it should be better. That is with a decat, straight thru, egr blank

I'm getting low 30s out my 110 td5 that's local and distance combined just turned 90000 miles purhaps the tdci will get better as the miles build up.
Transit 2.4tcdi jumbo with 3.2 ton on weight bridge 22mpg inc some fast motorway
26 mpg, dynachipped, no EGR crap, straight stainless exhaust Td5 standard gearing 1.2 transfer, strange though, off road I get 35 mpg.
The Ashcroft 5th gear mod they do to the R380 box is of interest, they change the 5th gear from a Disco giving 15% higher ratio without the problems of living with a 1.4 transfer box.

Sounds good. But fully believable, road biased tyres and the aero aids the Disco has over a Defender can make a huge difference to cruising mpg.

Cooper Discoverer STT 265/85/16 so not exactly road biased.
If anyones interested last 5 runs as follows -
26.99mpg - mixed driving
26.06mpg - around town only
26.8mpg - mixed
32.78mpg - Long motorway at 60mph
26.78mpg - mixed
27.88 average so far, I could probably increase this figure if I drove with less of a lead foot but wheres the fun in that! I am expecting this to increase slightly with the new MAF, re-map, wheels balanced and tracking done. Maybe even more once I decide to flush the intercooler & rad.
That's with the additional weight of a half cage, steel tubular rock sliders, HD steering arms, 'A' tubular winch bumper and steel steering guard. Though as mentioned De-Cat, Straight through exhaust and EGR Blank.
On a motorway run it does better mpg than I used to get from my 1.4 Fiesta!

I have run a 300 tdi county from new 1997 - I still have it - 28 mpg towing or not . . I have just bought a SWB 2.4 TDCI , have fitted new ECU , mileage when towing down to 15 mpg ! yes!.
Is this normal , selling it , could by a Merc AMG and get comfort and better mileage ,
Has any one else got this experience .
