TD5 won't start after injector seal replacement

Right deep breath here we go!

I yet again purged the fuel system and locked up several times looking at the crank position it was the same so I removed the rocker cover and no1 seemed to be the culprit
Injector removed and new copper washer fitted once I had syringed the fuel out and cleaned the mating surface bolted it back together and set the injector adjusters yet again (think I could do this with my eyes closed now!)
In between this I went and bought a hawkeye total, I checked DTC's and a couple of faults but nothing serious cleared those and purged the fuel system left it to do its thing and turned the key and it fired into life somewhat better than yesterday, still rough but better but clouds of white smoke.
Ran the hawkeye again and tried to get to know how it worked testing injectors etc
Whilst I was doing that it started running on all five cylinders "woohoo" I thought, i revved it up and as soon as the revs dropped it was back on 4 cylinders
I triggered each injector and sometimes it starts on five and sometimes not
I triggered the pump but sometimes it worked sometimes not
Could this be fuel pressure issue?
No fault codes are present

If no codes are logged the problem might be with the fuel supply cos that's not covered by diagnostics...or that no 1 injector is leaking(i mean the injection side of it cos only the solenoid is monitored)

the injector might be stuck open mechanically regardless of any power to the solenoid
swap the injector with another cylinder... and remove the glow plugs crank over engine does fuel spit out the glow plug hole that you have swapped with while cranking ..if it persists in number one cylinder you have other issues... if the issue moves over to another cylinder then you have found the culprit (could be a seized injector or a Brocken poppet spring and now crack pressures of the injector are way out of tolerance
also white smoke could be a dribbly injector (it could be dribbling in fuel while the piston is still at bottom dead centre )

to read fuel pressures your going to need to T into the fuel line at the front of the head to measure head pressure

unsure what you mean you triggered the pump and some times it didn't work ? the fuel pump needs to be running when engine is running at all times

simplest method is to use a gauge with flexible hose and the correct fitting(iirc M12 but not sure) to screw it instead of the FT sensor in the FPR

we both have been here before I posted pics of mine in the Australian forum along time ago ,, i remember as you questioned on the topic located here https://www.aulro.com/afvb/discovery-2-a/238717-td5-fuel-pressure-install-gauge-fittings.html
i will have a dig around to try and find photos and up load them to this
but for those who don't know i drilled a hole into the fuel regulator return gallery and tapped thread and installed a mechanical gauge the reason I did this was I had fuel issues... also got told by the DA here in Perth it cant be done (this just gave me more of a incentive to make it work )..just like they told me I wont be able to change my harmonic balance as I they think I don't own a torque wrench capable enough (are they sure about that as they don't know me )

the temp sensor is located in a different part of the regulator housing (as the regulator has gallery's )
if your only wanting to measure pump pressure only then yes ....but measuring from this point wont tell you if the screen gauze is blocked..it also doesn't tell you what fuel pressure is in the head

seems like you may have a compensation issue also
if you have a fuel pressure kit this means you should have no issue reading from all different points

I would love to get my injectors tested by this I will put my bottom dollar my injectors will fail this test

Injector arrived today changed no5 and still the same
no 5 in no 1 still the same
No 1 into no 3 purged the fuel and it ran on all five i revved it up and soon as I took my foot off the throttle it was back on 4 cylinders again!
When it misfires Roughness is
-29 no5
+9 no4
+15 no3
+5 no2
+27 no1
When it runs on 5 roughness flickers -1/0/+1 as it should

Ecu pulled out again and small amount of oil in plug so cleaned again

What are your thoughts guys
