Unfortunately im still in the process of selling my mini and buying a landy but i've come to a slight issue. I had a drive of a Td5 110 the other day and then drove my dads Tdci and it kind of made me want a Tdci for the better road driving. Seems to be my choices are either a late Td5 (2003-2005 plate) or a early Tdci (2007-2008 plate). In your opinion what would you guys have out of the two and why ?
Thanks for your help.
Kind Regards, Matt.

I think the early 2007 tdci's suffered from gearbox issues, but maybe those affected have been sorted under warranty? Doesnt the tdci 110 Utility have cheaper road tax from a certain year onwards?

I like both engines, we haven't had much bother with the tdci engine. muck in the fuel tank was an issue on the early ones, caused by putting the tank breather behind the rear tyre.
As for the gearbox, there is a splined shaft between the main and transfer box that LR forgot to grease (bit like the rear half shaft flanges) and this can wear and strip the splines off, an easy fix once the transfer is out. the other issue is jamming in gear and there is a detent mod for this.

I believe the earlier ones did have a few teething problems thats for sure and yes the 110 utility should have cheaper insurance due to it being a commercial vehicle

My dad has a 2008 tdci 110 crew cab and have had few problems with it yet. However it has covered only 10,000 miles. We had a 2002 td5 90 previous to that and it was nothing but problems however it never physically stopped and when it was running correctly it was a nice experience. I kind of think the tdci doesn't have a land rover feel to it, it's quiet and refined but I suppose after a while the tdci would be preferable.
