TD5 security problems

Hi all, still having problems with my TD5. Sometimes it runs, sometimes it doesn't. In desperation I took it to Rogers landcover at Bedford - they haven't got a clue. All they say is they think it is something to do with the "security module" not communicating with the ECU?!

We have tried almost everything, new ECU, new crank sensor, lots of other new sensors, other ECUs. I say almost everything, because there must be one thing that will work that we obviously haven't tried.

We really don't know what to do next. It's a 2000 TD5. Any help would be much appreciated.

You have probably checked this already, but as you have replaced everything else under the hood for new, have you checked the wiring between the ECU and the other sensors? The early TD5's had big issues with the wiring.

One big issue that people have experienced is oil leaking through the injector harness causing a whole heap of troubles from misfires through to simply not starting at all.

I am not saying you have oil in your wiring, but if you haven't already, check the wiring between your ECU and various sensors, it is probably that simple.

What's the problem you're having? I just had an issue that could have been ECU or immobiliser/faulty fuel pump.

Engine turning over but not firing. Almost as if not fuel getting to engine. After lots of buggering about, I had some melted cables. Have a look; http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f7/urgent-fuel-relay-td5-284283.html

Cheers huffhuff, we'll certainly be checking that. In the early days of the problem we got an error relating to a "Topside switch". We found that there is no such thing, but that the error relates to an ECU problem. The problem with electronics is that one fault creates another,

Topside switch faults are normally down to a dodgy injector loom inside the cam cover on the TD5.
Take the connector apart on the front of the engine and check for oil contamination.
Give the connector a good clean with brake cleaner and change the injector loom.
They are not that expensive.

If it's the alarm then get sombody with nanocom to disable it (Auzzi mode) !

Does your temp gauge go straight to the red when it's not working ?

Have you tried wiggling connections on yellow relay under seat ?

Need more info ?

I have a 2001 110 and had a 30A wire to said relay short on the bulkhead !

As it turned out, it looked like a previous owner had attempted to install an aftermarket alarm, then gave up. The wiring was a mess. Rogers at Bedford redid it and it's been fine since.
