I don't reckon 9K is outrageous for that motor if it's clean with a good history and a low miler. There's tons around for half that price... with 200k on them. Check lates LRO for buyers guide on facelift Disco-2s. Fact is last winter brought alot of people into the market, and the pre-facelifts have a heavy discount.

Mine had 5 owners and I was suspicious. Checked out severely and haggled like mad with dealer. Alot were bought by fad owners who got put off with the first few stealer service bills. If you don't know what to look for, be careful, or get a mate to help. With mine, 3000 miles later it's been sound as a pound. Big problem was a knackered prop shaft which I claimed of dealer. Either haggle to knock off the cost of the oil leak, get him to do it, or move on to another vehicle. It's just numbers.

I've been happy with the TD5. I'm on top of the maintenance, and after a propshaft, shockers, track rods, back springs, she is a wonderfully practical car, and not a bad cruiser either.

just had clutch replaced and shocks and springs upfront and airbags at rear all within the last month, bearing in mind that it almost has 98K on the clock and all of the stuff that has been replaced was oringinal then I dont think that they are expensive to maintain, regular oil changes are the key but then you would do that with a normal car, everything else is wear and tear, just make sure all previous owners are not farmers.
I have had my 2001 TD5 for nearly 3 years and may be looking after christmas for one on an 04 or 54 plate, so choose wisley and it will pay you back. ps get it re mapped though, turns it into the car it should have been !!!

May be interested when you sell that keep me in mind :)

Christ, mine has had 12 owners, it's only a 1995 (only, ha!). But it's got a good service history, it's got 22 stamps in the book and runs like a charm.
I know people that have bought discos on a whim (myself not included, my purchase was driven by a childish need to own a car I have wanted since I was a kid), a lot of people really don't think about how much they cost to run, service (if you can't do it yourself), repair and does anyone remember the road tax scare that saw a lot of people selling their 4x4s for way less than they were worth.
I know a guy who bought one last year because it snowed-not the most informed reason for a purchase, seeing as how it doesn't snow that often! That's like buying a convertable because it was sunny last Thursday!

Well, I’ve been and bought it! Just come in from washing and polishing the old girl. The dealer knocked off £250, gave it a full service, a fresh MOT and even put a new tyre on the spare wheel as the old one had a nail in it.
So I now have a new shiny black Discovery to look after and a top-class forum to get involved in - thanks guys!! :)
