My td5 auto has been sorn'd since april (its a winter car) the battery had been disconnected. Noticed air suspension had sagged, so decided to charge the battery. Connected it up and hey presto engine fired and i pumped up the suspension. I reversed car back a few inches just to make sure brakes weren't locked (bare with me). Oil level was low so I topped it up. When I tried to start her again got a funny bonging noise from dash and the auto gear display on dash showed up like the D for drive with a diagonal line through it. Tried again and this time P for park came on as it should but nothing happened in the engine department! Now i cant remote lock or open her or start her. If i lock/unlock using key, then open the door the alarm goes off. Has the key lost its link with the car? (the red led on key still lights up on use) help much appreciated. thank you.

The first thing I would be doing is to take the battery off and charge it overnight at least, maybe even for a day or day.

The electronic systems on these cars are very sensitive to electrical supply, so if there is any weakness in the battery at all, they will kick up.

Once fully charged reinstall the battery and assuming you can now get back into the car, start the engine and leave it ticking over for a few seconds before touching the gear stick. This allows sufficient time for the battery to "juice up" the auto transmission ECU.

You could also have the battery 'drop-tested' after being charged, just to make sure it is still fully operational. Do you know how old it is? If it's original it's due for a change.

Good luck

Dave

I had fully charged the battery before i initially started the car. It was only after i had switched it off, then tried it again when the problems started.

Hi Dave, I noted that you had charged the battery but that doesn't necessarily mean it's in a good state of health.

I've had troubles with one of my TD5's for exactly the same reason - I would charge the battery overnight on an Optimate. The following morning it would show as fully charged, but after one start of the engine it was knâckered again. Bûggered battery. Put a new one on and all the problems disappeared.

Have you got jump leads and another car that you could try, just as an experiment. Connect up to the other car and starts it's engine, leave ticking over for a few minutes, then turn yours onto pos II on the ignition to see if all the warning lights fire up as normal.

Had the battery checked, it is in good condition (only 2 years old) and is fully charged. Could it be something as simple as the remote reciever in the roof? Someone mentioned a BCM (body control module)? Engine does nothing, not even a click from the solenoid, the alarm is howling if the battery is connected. Any ideas would be great. thanks
