Hi i went to collect my caravan tonight for the first time with my recently bought disco td5 03 reg which i bought 3 months ago but has been off the road due to welding work so not really road tested it before, Anyway i put caravan on the back and set off towards motorway, the first long hill i came too i was down to 2nd gear accelerator flat to floor 20mph, caravan on weighs 1.380kg, so when we eventually got to top of hill we had to turn back! gutted. Anyone any ideas please?

Have a quick search for MAF on the forum and you'll find loads of similar questions ;) Sometimes the answer is easy, sometimes it's a FAFF

Note to self, must type faster!

i checked the ecu and red plug and it had oil on it so i changed injector loom but didnt have anything to clean ecu and plug with, is it best if you split the ecu to check inside for contamination? what do you clean the excess oil out with

Oil in the injector harness is an ongoing peril with the Td5. The oil can be cleaned out of the plug with some petrol, brake cleaner or I would prefer iso-propyl alcohol. When you tackle the job, it's often a good idea to remove the white insert in the plug to clean inside.
Whether or not you open the ECU is up to you, because of the age of the vehicle you're unlikely to void any warranties and in the case of very bad comtamination the oil can find it's way in there too. If there is contamination in there, bear in mind that there's some sensitive electronics in there too, the best cleaning method is to just wash it out with an aerosol spray which readily evaporates rather that trying to remove it with paper towels.
Remember also that even though you might have cleaned all the oil out of the plug, there's still quite a quantity left in the wiring harness between the cylinder head and the red plug, so if you can spare the time it might be worth allowing some time for that oil to drain out. It might take a number of goes to clean the oil out completely.
Don't forget that the root cause is the oil in the cylinder head finding its way past the seal on the injector harness. That will also need replacing.

Done the above plus cleaned intercooler out and all pipes going to it and also removed cleaned and checked all turbo pipes, plus i cleaned the maf with contact cleaner spray, tried running it with and without maf connected but didnt make a differnce? anyone with a d2 got any clues or what to check next

Do you have access to a nanocom or similar to get running diagnostics data?

Also have you tried bypassing the wastegate mudulator?

Cheers

The egr valve has been removed but what i noticed is that the egr cooler hasnt been blanked off either end would this make any difference?

Maybe you can't see the plate mounted to the manifold cos it must be one... as long as there's no exhaust leak through it it doesnt matter

the manifold has one on but on later disco's the egr had a cooler on it apparently situated right at the front of the engine

How should it perform with a caravan on the back weighing 1.380kg and 2 passengers? shouldnt be down to 2nd gear 20mph foot flat to floor surely should i

Its lacking power defo especially on the hills and yes i gave it some welly but it was like flogging a dead horse! only thing it can be now is wastegate solonoid, i've checked and cleaned everything today, cant think what else it could be? when i opened the air box there was no air filter in it at all for some reason
