dont know the figures yet, but in comparison with my 300tdi defender, its great on fuel, i put 50quid in it which took it to 1 mark over half, ive done 90 miles before it touched half a tank, im well pleased with it!! infact im over the moon

The gauge can be a bit misleading !.
If I fill mine right up I get 320 miles to the half way mark but the light usually comes on around 500. ( = 27 mpg ).

360 miles on a couple longish runs, the rest locally. Will be interesting to see the final mpg when its time to fill up

i get just over 400 on a full tank every time, what the hell is wrong with mine its a stanard td5 manual.

I get that too...
Easy solution - always fill up at half a tank then you always get 320 miles per half tank and thus 640 total! :doh:
depends on the level of tune you go for, you can ask for the re-mapp to give economy
foremost, or all out power for speed, or for more torque for towing or like mine a combination of all of the above, this means that driving normally i get 30 ish mpg, driving it it hard because i can will still give me around 30 ish, but it gets special whilst towing cos now it tows with no effort. towed my 23 ft bailey van to cornwall shortly after having mine remapped
and it cruised effortlessly over all of the hills on the M5 and the A30 without having to go through the gears or change down to overtake and still returned not much less than 30mpg, unlike our friends who went with us in thier 55 plate shogun LWB who nearly bankrupt themselves during the 2 week holiday filling the F***king thing up with fuel, honestly if you know someone who has had it done ask them for a ride you will be amazed at how much difference it makes.As for round town, I defy anyone to go to the shops and back in anything that weighs nearly 2.5 tons and has a 2.5 litre engine to get better that low 20's , if anyone claims to get 30 mpg round town regardless of tune then i think you should check for a whiff of bull****. come on ! some one nearby must have one that they wouldnt mind taking you out for 10 mins to show you the difference, if you are up in Hull at anytime then let me know and i will gladly take you out in mine

Check your tyre pressure is correct for the type of tyre fitted, tyre pressure has a significant effect on your mpg. Do you have an aggresive tread? if so this will reduce mpg.

ive got 4 new bfgoodrich A/T, i think there 235/7016 and simialr tread pattern to the generals, ive only had my disco a few days but im allready impressed with the mpg, and the car as a whole. the td5 engine is just great compared to the 300tdi in mi old defender. I can crawl along in 3/4th gear and will still pull away, if i did that in mi old defender i would have rattled my bones to bits lol. sorry if im babling but im well chuffed with mi disco

Thats not right !
" With God as my witness ", my manual TD5, all short town trips with the odd weekend 10/20 miler, returns no worse then 27 mpg.
It has 255/70/16 BFG AT,s, ( which give an accurate speedo reading ), de-EGR, de-CAT, Pipercross filter and is ridiculuosly looked after !.
Tyre pressures and tracking are regularly checked.
Its a fact that the AT tyre pattern will rob at least 1 mpg and the speedo now reads spot on, therefore recording the correct milage, ( not 3% over ). The 3% " over read " equates to about .8/9 mpg. Hence why before I changed from 255/65/16 road biased tyres I was averaging 28/29 mpg.
I have a " rough guide " to the Disco TD5,s mpg based on the milage when the light comes on. ( and a " Full tank " being when the pump nozzle clicks after the 3rd time ).
A tank full, based on this is around 18.7 gallons.
400 miles = 21.3
450 miles = 24.06
500 miles = 26.7 ( my last tank 19.1 gallons to 516 = 27 ).
561 miles = 30
579.7 miles = 31
598.4 miles = 32.
And I think someone mentioned 40 mpg which is 748 miles to a tank.

Then i have somethign seriously wrong with main mainly long ish trips around 30 ish miles then a break and 30 ish back a little town inbettween but not a lot.
I have de egr and decat and general at2's, correct pressures, tracking checked recently and services fully every 6000 miles. Just done all the gear box and axle oils as well.
Just also done injector rings and washers and still only 400 a tank. I drvie at about 70 with cruise on most of the time.
What could be the problem, wondering if the previous owner put one of those silly go fast chips somewhere that burns fuel and does little else anyone know what to look for and where?
I have a Discovery td5 and I can't seem to get more than 22mpg around and about but I get more towing on the motorway
Now go buy one and take it on the chin its well well worth it, you don't want a Feeblelander now do you lol

Finally filled the tank and worked out the mpg. Over 635 miles the result was 34.57mpg, I'm happy with that. Over that period revs were pretty much constant at 2250 at approximately 55-60 mph. Hopefully when the EGR is removed and blanked, there might be room for improvement

I see that the Parkers figures quote 30mpg, generally manufacturers figures tend to be on the conservative side so 35mpg should be achievable. I do have the advantage of being an ex HGV1 driver and trained for vehicle economy, I have also taught HGV drivers how to get the best out of there vehicles and can generally get a 5% increase from a driver that has a heavy right foot. Its all about smooth acceleration, anticipation, using the momentum of the vehicle and avoiding heavy braking, anyone can do it. Simples!

I know what you mean. My father always tries to get up to the speed limit as soon as possible and accelerates very harshly. I find it most annoying as a passenger because it's like watching someone throwing money down the drain. I don't say anything unless he's driving my car though. "It's a Land Rover, not a Ferrari. There's absolutely no point in trying to drive it like one!"

I've got a 2004 TD5 disco with 71,000 miles on the clock. I'm doing 29 mpg going to work and back, which is 10 miles each way.
