OK.......So I am getting close to driving my bloody Defender TD5 1999 off the edge of a cliff.
I have spent a fortune repairing this Landy. New cylinder head, oil cooler, turbo, steering pump, water pump, all drive shafts, etc.etc.etc.
I have had an ongoing problem with a stuttering engine for over 18 months now. I have changed the injector loom and cleaned all connections to the ECU an a regular basis. All these parts are as dry as a bone now. The stuttering (and occasionally the engine management light comes on) seemed to disappear for a few months and now it is back. I have been advised to get it hooked up to a diagnostics machine. This isn't that easy for me as the nearest dealer is a long way away.
However......my question is......do I need to go to a dealer for diagnostics??
I have a reasonably good mechanic who has diagnostics there, but I don't know if it will be as thorough as a dealer's computer?

Anyone have any ideas???

Thanks.

td5 isnt compatable with OBD2 so you need a dedicated land rover reader, if you put your location up, someone on here with hawkeye or nanacom could read the diagnostics for you

As Johnlad says. Tell us where ya are.

Hawkeye and Nanocom are amongst the best and most common amongst enthusiasts for checking out faults but he snapon range of diagnostics as used at many garages will all read the codes and live data too.

Thanks chaps, but I live in Southern Spain!!
I guess I'll book it into my not so local dealer and take it from there.
