Yes I’ve filled up the filter with fuel and it’ll run fine for a few minutes it’s like the lift pump is not working but I’ve taken it off the engine with the pipes still on hand pumping it with the cam arm fuel coming out of the pump no problem the stop solenoid is clicking as it should do The bosh pump should pull fuel through even if the lift pump is not working properly. fuel pipe to the tank is completely clear It’s a bit of a head scratcherIf you fill the filter with diesel it will run/drive fine until the filter is empty and then stall?
We have a separate fuel cut off on the 200tdi and it will run with the fuel switched off, it will tick over but pretty much undriveable.
Your welcome, although it's debatable how much help I have actually been. That makes two of us I’ll try that out next like you said I’ll work back from there. Thanks again for the help
maybe post up a pic of the pipes/lift pump on the engine?
I’ll do a video if I can work out how to put it on here
You can't, you have to post it on YouTube first.I’ll do a video if I can work out how to put it on here
I've done this quite often but I always use a inline filter in the feed from the temporary tank just in case because your bypassing the filter mechanisms and disturbing stuff & any ingress of dirt into the injection pump can be really bad.It certainly is a head scratcher.
Use a fuel can instead as a temp fuel tank to bypass parts of the system. I would bypass the tank, lift pump and filter first and work backwards.
WARNING I am not a expert and making it up as I go along!
I know it's been mentioned about the arm being the wrong side of the cam but is that really possible? I have changed the pump on my son's tdi a few times and just bosh it in no problem. These can literally pour fuel out of the bottom of them but still drive ok.
Hi Steve thank you for your message I’ve put an external tank on the system with a in line filter and it runs fine. Going to get some clear pipe tomorrow morning and start working from the tank backwards to the injection pump hopefully that will show me where the air is coming in I’ve replaced all of the pipes made sure that the fuel tank is full bled everything got a good amount of fuel coming out of the bleed screw no air coming out. She will run fine for a while and then she will cut out. As I mentioned earlier I’ve got a vacuum at the bleed screw I’ve put in an in line clear filter after the main filter can’t see any air I’ve even bypassed the lift pump and the main filter can’t see any bubbles in the in-line filter. I’ll see what tomorrow brings. Thanks again. Because the situation seems to pop up often when I'm messing with diggers and plant I have a small boat outboard fuel tank that has a little isolation valve and proper fuel connections to avoid end of the pipe came out the diesel moments & a T piece for the return line just after the tank before the filter.
So I’m I yes and straight to the injector pump I’ve tried so many different things I’ve forgotten what I’ve done had help from a great mate so I think we’ve only got the pick up pipe in the tank to check but that’s only 2 months old had problems with that as the float is sitting on the baffling and not sowing when empty but that’s a different story.I'm looking forward to you finding the problem.
Where did you fit the temporary tank, between filter and injector pump?
