Hi

During the snow the 10 amp blade fuse which services the indicatiors and dials blew strange as the hazards still work.
Replaced the blade fuse and all worked then pressed the indicator and it blew the fuseagain.
The most obvios to me is that there a problem in the indicator switch mechanism.

Any body got any ideas.

Rob

The hazards and indicators are on seperate circuits.

Have a look under the drivers side rear wheel arch and the inside access panel to get behind the lights.. The mud snow and ice was getting thrown up and chaffing the wiring and causing my tail light to keep blowing.

Hi Ratty

Read all the quotes and the audience think that your spot on.

So have you discarded my idea on a fauklty indicator switch??

Rob

It is possible that it's the switch. It is more likely to be a short though. Does it only happen if you flick the indicators a certain direction or does it happen if the stalk is moved in either direction?

to blow a fuse then it can only be a short(drawing too much current)to earth....had exactly the same prob, well mine was sidelight knocking out my dash lights too,and like all things electrical it became intermittant and a bugger to trace....but eventually i found it....were the wiring runs through the inner wing and you cant get to it! it had obviously worn through its insulation over the years and chose this winter to 'run to earth'....but was an easy enough fix, simply replace with a new wire and reroute in a friendlier place,so if your blowing fuses then id forget the switch and check out your wires

typical landy wiring. having said that just had wires from back of alternater melt all plastic off and not a single fuse blown

Hi Rob
Similar problem with me, perhaps. Older 110 with a TD5 conversion. Right indicator did not work until I had an auto electrician look at the car as a whole. Not long after this, indicator and panel started shorting (intermittantly) when I tried to indicate right only. Had another guy look at it and put in a new earth - worked for a couple of weeks, then started happening again. Had another guy have a look at it who somehow has disconnected the permanent live (thus clock doesn't work, stereo doesn't keep presets), which worked for a few weeks, then blew again on the weekend. This time, however, no fuses blown yet neither indicators work!
Think it is about time I just tried to sort this out myself - and was suspecting the switch mechanism until I saw your question trail. Please let me know how it goes which might guide me as to what to try and change.

had similar on my 90.

turn right indicator on, blown fuse.

took all indicators out, cleaned the contact and the screws, job done, no more blown fuses and everything works as it should.
