Just scraped through MOT test today but I have a feeling that my TD5 15p has a couple of sticky injectors, just wondered if anyone has any good ones to sell. Looked around and there seems to be plenty saying came out of working engine but condition unknown no come backs, would prefer to get some from a trusted source.

I assume you have already changed the injector loom, and run a couple of bottles of Diesel Magic through it?

I changed the loom a couple of times over the last years, I got some cleaner from my mate at the garage tipped half into the filter and added the other half into half a tank of diesel then ran it about 170 miles on the A1 but the exhaust always looks very sooty.
Even put the catolitic back on for the test and took the air filter out.
On my nanocom one injector always has a bit higher balance number than the others, but I reckon it may be time to do an overhaul on the engine, a look inside will tell me if it's just a bad injector or they are all buggered.

That sounds good. Just checking.

The new emissions testing has no bearing on older vehicles
Well I can't agree there, last year the MOT only knocked back diesels which showed visible exhaust smoke, now they have set targets on measured emission which are difficult for engines designed years ago only to meet older standards.

Got told by my new MOT tester that the newer stricker rules like smoke out of the exhaust, DPF levels e.c.t only apply to the newer models, seem to remember euro 6? Vehicles before then are still based on the ppm measuring we have at the moment, taking manufactures emissions data and using that as a baseline or if its not published has a set value to not be worse than.

Limits will never be harder to achieve than when they came out of the factory, implications on the motorist would be too harsh for the government to litigate against. Done to try and combat modifications that produce more emissions.

I have a 2001 defender 90 TD5 which was tested yesterday and they do a full measured enmission test and a print out was given with the MOT certificate, they also told me it was touch and go to get my pass, I have some concern that if they begin to tighten the spec then many engines like mine could be right out in the cold.

What I meant to try and get across was I highly doubt they'll tighten the specs to beyond the capabilities of the engine.

The read out with the mots that shows your emissions result, probably a number up to 3. That limit won't be lower than physically possible to produce off a stock engine otherwise it would make most of these cars redundant. Although the government want these cars off the road they can't make it actually impossible for you to use them as the ramifications due to the effects of peoples right to transport and economic burden e.c.t would be ridiculous. What they can do and probably will do will increase the taxes placed on such cars as to make it more difficult (but not technically impossible) to use them and so phase them out.

I see your point and I hope you are right, looking at my certificate it says "test limit applied 3.00 l/m."
hope to get some work done on mine before next test.
When I bought it it had been fitted with one of those blue box clip on chips which I never liked so i took it off, i wonder if there is some left over problem from that damed thing don't know if the ECU map was messed about with when that was added.
I have often thought of trying to get a bog standard td5 Defender map and put it into the ECU with Nanocom and see if there is any difference

I also had an mot completed on my 1993 200tdi this week, also with the print out of emission results, mine past easily and was well within the limits. If yours is struggling to meet the emission levels set when it was manufactured perhaps your engine is tired, or some other mechanical problem.

Yes I looking at that, I put this post up to see if anyone has any known decent injectors to sell, I suspect it may be one or two bad ones the Nanocom shows 3 which seem to give very low balance numbers one which is a bit higher and one even higher would be interesting to swap out the worst one and look at the readings.

Have you still got the EGR or deleted? Could also look at the cat might be partially blocked perhaps affecting results. If youre getting odd readings from the injectors they could be over fueling which would defiantly increase your emissions. Assume the chip would increase the fueling as well so very well could be and after issue of that. Assuming the original ECU was told to accept orders from the chip without it could logically have an impact.

I know Alive tuning can send a map over if you have your own Nanocom at a lot cheaper than there normal tune prices.

Coming up to the MOT I replaced the EGR I may blank it again now ive seen the muck the drop in your inlet manifold, I re fitted the Cat to give it the best hope even took out the air filter.
The chip box just joinned into the injector signals coming from the ECU using scotch locks so I am not sure if any mods were made to the ECU map but it may be worth contacting Alive for their input.
As I said I have wondered if anyone had copied their original TD5 Defender MAP for back up and would post me a copy to see if that made any difference, I puit in a new ECU from a Discovery a while ago the disco map works OK but some of the instruments read backwards i.e. as soon as the ignition comes on temp goes up to max, so I re maped it withe a back up of the file which was in the ECU when I bought it.

I always service mine and clean mine before a MOT so I have new air, oil and diesl filters.
I did the injector washers before the last one and adjusted the injector plungers and it was the best emissions result yet.
I work off make it the best it can be when they see it's easier to get a pass

But you do have to know your vehicle ... as they all have little quirks ...
