I've been following a couple of other threads regarding tyres. My Sport is due a couple of tyres soon. I have been running Pirelli Scorpion Asimetrico 235/50 R18 since I bought the car 9 years ago.
No complaints but they aren't cheap here in Spain. I notice that Nodge mentioned he is running 235/55 R18 Coopers but I seem to recall that they are 18" Sport wheels on an SE.
Would those tyres fit a standard suspended Sport?
The rear tyres on mine are decent but the spare hasn't been changed for years. If I could get a new set of four for a reasonable price, stick one of the decent rears on the spare, then I'm only 'wasting' one decent tyre, which could go in to stock, just in case.
I have always put the new tyres on the rear and always fitted the same make/size tyres over the last 9 years but if I can find some good/not expensive tyres, I would look to change all four this time.
Any thoughts?
Cheers.

Yes. I can't see a reason why they won't fit. From memory the strut body is the same dimensions to the normal height Freelander, so the slightly taller 55% tyre will fit. Take a look at the gap between the top of the 50% tyre, and you should see there's enough space for the larger tyre.

Cheers Nodge. From memory, there's only about 5mm between the inner tyre sidewall and the spring cup!

I'm sure it's larger than that. It's well worth measuring, before deciding to go larger.

Incidentally I only went for that size of Cooper tyres, because I got them for a very reasonable £60 each. However it was worth going to the slightly larger diameter, as it corrected the speedometer error.

I'll have a look tomorrow.
The Pirellis here cost around €160 each, so four of them is a bit rich! Heard good things about Cooper tyres but open to suggestions about any alternatives.

I can highly recommend the Cooper WeatherMaster WSC tyres, you really are limited with the 18" rims, unless you want to spend £160+ corner but I've been more than happy with them.

Thanks TSR2. As they are a winter tyre, are they any good in the dry?

They are M+S tyres and essentially winter tyres but I've had them on all year round and they're fine, a HUGE step-up from the Sunny crap that was on it when I purchased the vehicle. Good in the wet too, decent handling. Tyre noise is acceptable.
