Hi guys. got a td4 freelander wich is a non starter.
now then. electric pump under o/s/rear arch.
low pressure pump workin and kicking out 8bar at pump and 4 bar at engine with ignition on.
got fuel to injectors with ignition on, no different in pressure when cranking.
had it scanned and got fuel pressure control fault up.
some ppl say low press. pump could be over pressurissing???? dnt know wat difference that would make.
and done spill test on injectors. all good.
is it high pressure pump? at £400 i dnt want to take a chance.
plz help.

A study of 'Rave' might help (download via 'Green oval') for fuel pressure specs etc.
Low pressure supply to High pressure pump should be at least 2bar, so from what you say you have ample low pressure supply therefore it may be a problem with the high pressure fuel regulator again going on your comment about the scan showing pressure control fault. I would check the pressure regulator on the end of the fuel rail before committing to change the high pressure pump. Good luck. D..

dann, the sensor on end ofrail is just like a oil light switch. i think the fuel pressure valve is in the back of the high press pump.
if the switch in the rail was faulty, would it give the fuel press valve false info and send fuel back to tank.
bt there again when it was scanned the scanner said it was having 4.25 bar of pressure. so something must be working to tell the ecm/ecu the pressure.

Just had a look at 'RAVE' the pressure switch on the fuel rail signals ecu if pressure drops below 200bar (minimum injection pressure) the ecu would then close the pressure reg on the pump to force the pressure to rise above 200 bar.

Possibilities:
1. The pressure switch is faulty and telling the ecu that pressure is too high, the ecu is then telling the pressure reg to stay open and return fuel to the tank.
2. The pressure reg on the HP pump is stuck open and returning fuel to tank (this sounds most likely)
3. The HP pump is faulty and unable to create sufficient pressure ( they tend to be quite reliable)

Good luck D..

Sorry iv not been back, the td4 was sorted. i fitted a dummy actuator, still no joy. i took the plunge and fitted a new high pressure pump. bingo. thanx for all ur help.

Not wanting to pee on any bonfires but.........

If anybody gets this fault again, Before replacing the pump try cleaning the connectors on the high pressure fuel pump sensor. It is a common fault with them and is often misdiagnosed as the fuel pump itself. It may have ben the fuel pump itself in this case but if the sensor wires have turned green or brown then they are the usual reason for it.

checked injectors ? my td4 had excessive leak back on one injector and stopped it from starting. Would always fire and run on easy start, might be worth checking.

hello all, having a problem with a freelander TD4 2006 , a no start, injectors were swapped from another freelander same thing.... the vehicle which we swapped injectors from, after installing it back to the vehicle started to idle rough.. then we just bled the fuel system worked fine.... now with the no start what should we do ?? there is loads of fuel comming out from the HP fuel pump in the engine bay ?
and is there any way of testing injectors by measuring its resistance like in gasoline cars ?

any help would be sppreciated
thanks
