Following on from my TD5 wont start thread, I've had the ECU checked and it is fine, I've replaced the injector harness but still the vehicle refuses to fire (or even attempt to) and even after cranking for a while shows no smoke from the exhaust. The fuel pump runs, when I remove the spill back/return line that goes from the head to the pressure regulator block there is fuel coming out of the pressure regulator block under cranking but not from the spill back line.
I've run the bleed sequence to both try and purge any air and also to check the voltage draw across the pump fuse which was 22.7Mv.
After running the bleed programme (ignition on, pump throttle pedal 5 times) the pump is quite noisy during the bleed cycle and the Red Engine Warning lamp stayed illuminated and the vehicle wouldn't crank.
This is a vehicle that was driven into the workshop 3 to 4 years ago in running order for a gearbox overhaul. it's been parked up since and I'm now trying to get it running.
Other factors. The oil level in the motor is on the low side.

My thoughts are: are there any sensors/switches that would prevent a start if the oil level is too low?

Could a faulty fuel pressure regulator cause the above issues
Does the reading of 22.7Mv from the pump indicate the HP side is working ok? If it was just due to pump pressure would it not be more likely to fire but run rough?
I don't have access to a diagnostic tool hence getting the ECU checked by ECU testing services.

Any thoughts much appreciated.

Cheers

No such thing

Yes, it should at least start and idle on LP but if you start it with spray and the injectors are opening it must idle even without HP, if it dies after it burns the spray means that the injectors are closed

Thast's not very relevant as long a the ECU was not scanned on the vehicle to see if it communicates with the engine or not cos it can be a circuit interruption between them or missing power supply/earth to the ECU, i'm affraid you can't diagnose this issue without plugging in a compatible scanner to see live inputs especially the crank signal and battery voltage while cranking or make sure that the ECU is not immobilised cos it seems that the injectors are not opening at all for some reason

eventually try to bump start it insistently without cranking if cos i've seen defenders which started just that way.
