Hi y'all,

New to the forum..

Had a 300TDI Disco before (and loved every minute other than those spent at the diesle pumps!) but I'm now toying with the idea of getting a TD4 Freelander. It would be manual, around 2000 / 2001 and not bothered whether 3 or 5 door.

Already done a bit of reading about viscous units, IRD's, minor electric niggles etc.. but any other advice?

I'd probably be looking at a max of 5k. Looked at 2 today that seemed clean both with 75000 on them, is that too much? Are the TD4's chain driven or belt? Anything to look out for on test drives (I already know about VU tests such as slow driving at full lock).

Cheers in advance guys....

welcum newbie. . . . .chain , check all the common faults on this ear forum, no thats a reasnable milage fer the motor, good engine the td4 :) :) :)

The pre facelift seems to have more niggles etc the engine is chain driven, there is plenty of doom and gloom if you look for it, but most vehicles have them.
The way I read it the owners mostly love the Freelander but are bitterly disappointed when something brakes, they seem let down. This also seems to often happen.
I have a one and love it, it hasn’t gone bang yet !!

Thanks so far guys...
