sorry man. just thought if you took the head off the tdi it may give easier access to the bell housing bolts.

can remember taking the engine out of an rrc, had to reach in the gear lever hole and unbolt with one hand and after putting the socket on by feel. last resort!?

Yep truedat, it would be easier, but I don't really want to take the head off. I'll give it another go tomorrow, and if it's no good I'll either;

- take engine and gearbox out in one lump
- angle grind a massive hole in the floor
- remove engine mounts and try to lower it some more.

We'll see though... :D

that sounds like a team.
one to swing spanners. one to gofer and one to make brews, leaving you to supervise. and point a lot lol :D

Precisely. One of 'em is 6ft 7 and 25 stone, so I'm gonna put him on the hoist methinks :D by the way, do you have any idea of the weight of a fully-fitted Tdi? It's just that my hoist seemed to struggle with the TD, and that didn't even have the head on it!

at 6 7 and 25 st get him to wrestle it out. lol

i think they are about the same weight. are you gonna lift it over the front slam pannel? saw one guy take the front wheels off to make it easier!

Ha. nah, I've already removed the front of the Disco with my trusty angle grinder, so don't need to lift it that high, the hoist just started groaning and straining under the weight, but I reckon it should just about be ok, fingers crossed :D

yea!
it should be fine. the head of the 200 is relatively light, ISH!!

have you thought about the power steering? how you are going to sort it?

How do you mean? My 110 is already equipped for power steering, all I've got to do is connect the hoses from the pump, using the low pressure one from the TD and the high pressure one from the Tdi.

i thought that. but the pumps are different with different fittings.
it was an easy solution, pirtek, made a high pressure replacement for 20 quid, caught them at the right time i think.

the engine sits further back, all the pipes will need stretching.

use the TD feed pipe , and the disco High pressure pipe . If you dont mind one of the pipes sticking out from the front crossmember about 4" .
Also use your TD oil cooler pipes with the adapters that are still in the TD oil filter housing . No need to get pipes made up what so ever :) , saves on ££ :)

ah, well that sucks. I've seen some conversions where people just use some heavy duty rubber hosing and a couple of clips, which is what I will probably do with my oil cooler pipes.

I think the nearest pirtek to me is in Ashford... what do you do then, just walk in and ask them to extend them?

i sent the missus, she fluttered her eye lids said she broke the landy and can they help.

everything is cheaper if you have boobs.
lol
yet moobs have the oposite effect??

hah, classy. :D doubt my girl would do the same for me, she despises everything with the green badge on it... :(

Ah well I'll see how it goes tomorrow and worry about it then.

sweet, keep us updated and get some pic's.

my missus hates the oval too, however explain if she does it, there is more money saved for hand bags etc lol

With regard to the high pressure PAS pipe - I used the TD hose from the box, almost up to the pump, and then a short section of the TDI pipe from the pump. They meet quite nicely just above nearside chassis rail. A double compression fitting was used to join them together. It looks nice and neat - the TD hose still clips onto the front cross member.

As Sypher says, use the TD oil cooler pipes - no need for an expensive trip to Pirtek!

Ian.

Nice, thanks for the tips. :D With regard to the oil cooler pipes, I thought that the TD ones have a different fitting/head on them than the TDI, and that's why people are always going on about how their Disco TDI ones are too short? Cheers.

Yep, that is true. I swapped the oil filter housing plus hoses from the TD onto the TDI. At the radiator end, there are screw-in adaptors that go into the radiator - again, I swapped over the adaptors from the TD radiator to the TDI one.

Ok thanks, and I take it it all fits without problems - i.e. no need for drilling or tapping or rethreading?
