TC and ABS

Thanks for this. I had a look at this thread - and have to admit that I was still left a little confused but the fog is certainly lifting a bit!.

Am I right in thinking that the TC system works using the ABS system, which kicks in when the ECU sees different speeds between the wheels? So if the speed sensors in say the front left and right wheels send readings that are too different to the SLABS ECU then the ABS system kicks in a applies a braking force to the wheel with the higher reported speed? That makes sense and explains the ABS type noise and feeling when this happens.

So if my TC comes on at very low speeds and applies the ABS system to my front left wheel when there is only a tiny wheel slip, does this suggest that my front left speed sensor is faulty / poorly calibrated and therefore needs to be replaced?

If so, is this a fault that will likely show up on any diagnostic software - reading a few posts about this it seems that this may not be recorded as a fault in some cases.

Last question. Assuming that this is the issues (and it does seem like a logical conclusion based on what you guys have said) what's the cost of fixing this? Are we talking mucho spondoolies or is this something that cane be done for a reasonable price?

Thanks in advance for the advice

Cheers

I think you should read again my post cos you are asking questions which were already answered, even how you can check with multimeter
1. was that suspect hub replaced lately?
2. this symptom just appeared or it was like this sonce you bought the car?
...if yes for both read further in that linked thread cos it's possible that a cheap hub was fitted which has less slots on the reluctor ring then that's what happens then a new quality hub is needed which is around 150 quid

1). No hubs replaced since I have owned the car (4 yrs)
2). Issue has been there since I owned the car

Then i think a cheap hub with less teeth on the reluctor ring was fitted by the previous owner... you need a new quality one...read that thread untill the end to see eighteenave's finding
