Hi all,

I've just fitted standard new cam and tappets to my 3.5 v8. Did all the pre load checks and all were in acceptable limits.

On bolting the engine back together, double checking the oil level and starting her up I have noticed a tapping noise that i believe is coming from cylinder 2.

Is there any i can check this or should i just return the tappets back to the shop?

Also change
plugs
leads
rotor arm
dizzy cap
ignition coil

Thanks

oe/pattern etc..???

also give it a while...unless you have??you primed them??

Hi,
I ran the engine for 20 mins to break in the cam. Used cam lube and primed them. But odd thing was as soon as I first started the engine it tapped. And today I removed the rocker cover and started the engine. No tapping noise.
So I drove the car about half a mile and the tapping noise started again. I will be sending it to a garage to make sure the timing setup correctly and setup the carbs.

Well if you can sort cam etc why not do carbs and timing yourself??

Well after the tappets starting making noise i though i may have done something wrong.

Besides I need an MOT and it makes sense to have it setup there as i don't have carb balancer and i have tried to setup the dizzy but i think i'm just not doing it right. And the Garage it All Autos in weston and they nuts on landys.

noisey tappet/s may well not be your fault.(espicaly if you used non genuine LR one)..could even be rocker etc..
so have faith in your work till proved otherwise..

If you got it running to break the cam in the carbs and timing can't be far out. Timing is simple with a timing light and carbs aren't that complicated either. If you're on the original stromberg/ su there isn't much that can be adjusted to be honest. If you need any help just ask. Both myself and a lot of others on here can run through timing and carb setup.

i actually ended up keeping the ene rockers and indstead reducing height on rocker Axle stands by 0,4 mm - it completly removed ticking. i Read somwhere that
end float on hydr lifters were big enough to do that.
