Freelander 2 (LR2) Tailgate opens when I open the driver door

I haverecently discovered that the tailgate opens when I open the driver door. It happens when I am unlocking the car, and when I reopen the door after a short while. Has anyone had the same problem, and is there a simple fix to this problem?

Could be your battery due for a change or a witch cursed the vehicle.

That's an odd fault, but it's normally the boot release switch (above the rear number plate) is stuck in the unlock position.
