Hi Guys I am looking at replacing my tailgate door as it is seriously corroded. What are the pit falls of this and are there any things I should look out for during the process. If anyone can give me some advice on the replacement method It would be much appreciated.

Kind regards

Kieran.

I'm about to attempt this, I have a good used tailgate on the way. I was hoping to find a complete one to make the swapping over process easier. That was not to be, at least this one has the wiring loom left in it…!

The trouble is the majority of the tailgates on the the s/h market have gone in the same place.

I have a tailgate (bare) in silver that I was going to get re-sprayed, but that will now end up in the for sale section.

I replaced the outer handle earlier and on looking inside the door, it all looks fairly straight forward. I think setting up the window glass will need some thought…

I'll post more as and when I get round to doing it.

So where would the usual place be where these doors go?, mine has a hole (golf ball size) behind the door handle housing, to compound the problem the retaining bolts were knackered too so I had to improvise with a nut and bolt on one side and a block of wood and a screw on the other, figured it would do for the time being but it sounds like a different door might not be so straight forward.

I didn't realise I had the usual hole by the handle until I read about the problem on here, decided to bend down and check and lo and behold a hole appeared. Decided even though the car was a 2005 model that now was the time to sell as I couldnt be bothered to repair the door, sometimes wish I'd got off my lazy bum and fixed it instead.
