T-Cut has a bad rep...but it does have its uses!

After last weekends greenlaning, the car needed a good clean as it got pretty muddy underneath and also picked up a few scratches after the last lane of the day that got very narrow towards the end!

So the car had a thorough wash yesterday and this morning I decided to T-Cut all the panels to remove most of the scratches and restore some of the metallic shine - it came out pretty good I reckon (although there are still some now-very-shiny scratches)!

Pretty pleased with the results, will look even better once I've waxed it to provide a protective layer!

Yes, a good waxing is a must to protect the paint after t-cutting.Nice job though.

Now clay it before you wax it. Makes it much easier to clean and makes the paint smooth as glass.

I'll be honest, I'm not sure I can be arsed! I know I should, but having clayed the beemer the other week, it's knackering!!

Looks very good. Seeing these pictures and reading your blog gives me something to aim for.

Your RRC is very nice keep up the good work and thanks for sharing with us.

I need to give mine a good cut and polish but gonna concentrate on all the oily bits first

My roof looks bit crappy was thinkin of clay bar. what do you reccomend? last time had it washed was by the poles at whitfield. think time did it myself

Thanks very much! Mine still has a few oily bits to sort, but giving it a good clean really motivates you to get the other stuff sorted. Mine's gone off again today for a bit more work, ho hum. Got any pics of yours? Prob best to chuck 'em in the other thread!

Any clay bar will do TBH; if you don't want to use 'detailing liquid' (and there's no reason to) just put a capful of car shampoo into about half a litre of water (don't froth it up like washing a car, you want it slippery!), warm the clay bar in your palms and then with the liquid just go over the whole car, constantly turning the clay over to fresh bits as it gets dirty.

Once you have done that, wash the car with a good quality car shampoo (not washing up liquid, contains salt), then polish it and then wax it to seal the paintwork. Job done! Will take a bout a day and your arms will want to fall off.

Thanks for the guidance. Never been much into doing all of that, but seeing yours there and looking at mine I got do it. What do you use on the trim?

Autoglym vinyl and rubber care on the dash/doors/wood trim, Gliptone leather cleaner and conditioner on the seats and rain-ex on all exterior windows. I have T-Cut the paint to remove scratches from greenlaning but typically use Meguiars Gold Class Polish and Meguiars Tech Wax to seal the paint.

TBH, I usually use all this on the beemer but no harm in giving the RR some TLC to keep her looking nice!

when i t cutted Brian some time last year, the paint went epic shiny (absolutely no orange peel), with a DA polisher.
it stayed epic shiny up till the point i wrote him off now he is resprayed and waiting for another go with the polisher just to fine tune the paint work. very little orange peel though

Have used it on and off for 30 years and it's always done what it should

Yeah i agree if used properly in one direction only gives good results, always has. Standard for removing tar deposits years ago was Brasso. Leave the lid off a gallon tin and letting the solvent bleed off, produced a thick cream. Removed tar and tarnish very well indeed. But modern T-Cut is not as easy to remove as it used to be for some reason.

I don't think its T-Cut has gone bad. I just think there are products out there today that do a better job with less effort. I use menzerna polishes and a DA polisher and the results are fantastic. All sealed in with a quality carnuba wax and if I really want to spend all day outside to avoid the Wife

I'll give a coating of Prima Amigo Glaze before the wax.

You maybe right but T-Cut is definatly harder to remove than it used to be, seems to be greasy now never was years ago. Trick is to use minimal amounts and not slosh it on. G3 is excellent.

cos you get alot that confuse t-cut with wax and never put anything on after it to protect the paint, then complain 6 months later when it looks worse than when they started.
i never had a problem removing it cos i use a orbital polisher (differant head for each coat..ie t-cut,polish,wax)

A good and reasonably priced one is Meguiar's Smooth Surface Replacement Clay Bar about £8 ish

T-Cut has a bad rep...but it does have its uses!
