I’d like to put a SVR engine in to my Discovery 4.

I won’t be attempting this myself so I’d appreciate if the forum can advise who to contact to discuss.

If you aren't doing it yourself, I suspect you'll need £20,000 or more to do it. Possibly a lot more, as I have no idea how easy it is to even get hold of one of those engines.
 
Cost aside and subject to your location, you might like to talk with Dave at Mahker. This is right up their street + have a lot of experience with engine/performance upgrades
 
Indeed , might as well buy a D4 with a supercharged V8 5 x litre petrol already fitted , wonder what the difference Ref BHP there is between the 2 x engines

Think the SVR is a BMW X5 M engine

More than £20k, probably nearer £30k would cover the mechanicals.
A sensible mileage SVR engine will cost over £12k, the required 8 speed box is another £6k, then there's the other stuff needed to fit it, like the electronics, programming, harnesses, and uprated brakes and suspension, then the labour could easily eat up another £10-£20k.
It's a dream, and a pointless one at that, when a RRS SVR could be had for what it would cost to do an SRV powered D4.

The SVR engine has 545 BHP, and over 500 ftlb of torque.

The D4 V8 has 375 BHP, 375 ftlb of torque.

It's a supercharged 5.0L Jaguar AJ-V8. ;)

many thks mate , was looking and if I’ve read it right the discovery 4 5 x litre engine is a 133 engine

Admittedly if I had the money would have a petrol D3 4.4 over the D4 5 litre , still can’t believe what some are asking for the petrol D3 V8’s , think there jap imports , alas don’t know how rare the 5 x litre D4 is in comparison , never the less my next disco will more than likely be a petrol

The SVR ‘is’ a supercharged V8 engine. Thanks to Jaguar, not BMW.

Never fitted to the D4 in any market. Don’t think they even sold n/a V8 ones in the U.K. certainly not after the first year of production.

You don’t know my reasoning for considering this project so perhaps pointless to you, but for me it make some sense. Well as much sense as a 500bhp vehicle does anyway..

Don’t think you’d need the gearbox. Loom and that likely to come with an engine.

I’d have thought swapping in the 4.2 supercharged unit (and maybe gearbox) from an L320 RRS would be fairly easy. Largely the same vehicle as a D4. If you bought a written off donar you’d have all the parts. A pulley change and some other mods should still see 450bhp+

Can be plenty of valid reasons for 500hp. No need to be a bit of a knob in your reply. I suspect if you gave some reasoning and ideas of budget, people might take you more seriously. Else you could just an 11 year old on Daddy’s iPad.

I hadn’t considered this but definitely worth exploring. Could it be a more straight forward option? Has it been done?

many thks , got my wires crossed as always , lol , thought the svr engine was also fitted in the BMW X5M

So indeed as u say , the D4 5 x litre is also an import ( The Gen III version of the V8 petrol engine (available in markets outside the UK such as North America, Russia, Japan, Australia, and some EU countries) is now a 5-litre unit with Direct Petrol Injectiondeveloping 385 bhp (287 kW) and 520 N⋅m (380 lb⋅ft).[21] )

Shame they didn’t use the ZF 8 x speed gearbox in the 5 x litre D4 , think that would have been really nice

Must admit looking at the SVR top speed it’s some 170 Mph , know for one I wouldn’t fancy doing that kind of speed in such a high centre of gravity motor , nice to have plenty of grunt for torque , towing etc , plus think many also forget to upgrade the brakes , including tyre speed ratings etc

wonder if they also suffer with timing chain, tensioner etc issues

looking I see for a 2010 D4 5 x litre there going for around 35k, also surprised as some adverts are saying it’s low road tax of around £286 per year
