I'd be surprised if LR bought engines in from former LR owners BMW.
This could just be the motoring press getting the wrong end of the stick.
But it would be an interesting but strange move from LR.

Shame they didn’t use the ZF 8 x speed gearbox in the 5 x litre D4 , think that would have been really nice

Must admit looking at the SVR top speed it’s some 170 Mph , know for one I wouldn’t fancy doing that kind of speed in such a high centre of gravity motor , nice to have plenty of grunt for torque , towing etc , plus think many also forget to upgrade the brakes , including tyre speed ratings etc

wonder if they also suffer with timing chain, tensioner etc issues

looking I see for a 2010 D4 5 x litre there going for around 35k, also surprised as some adverts are saying it’s low road tax of around £286 per year

It's got a towing capacity of 3000kg, so a bit less than a traditional chassis LR.

It would be an experience in a D4 too, although as a D4 is almost 500kg heavier and more brick shaped than an RRS SVR, performance wouldn't be anything like as good as the SVR that donated its engine.

Yes, the AJ-V8 doesn't snap cranks, but if the D4 has a V6 diesel, then it's even more expensive to change to the SVR engine, as everything is different, engine, gearbox, fuel system, electronics system, it would be cheaper to simply buy a RRS SVR.
