Hey everyone,
new to all this and finding out how it all works :/
I have bought a defender 90 1989 which has a 2" lift and big tires on it and when driving it it drifts around the road slightly and also there is a bit of play in the steering. I was woundering is this all normaland the type of think that happens with the lift and bigger tires.

Also i am thinking of removing the 2" lift and brining it back down to the standard hieght, so i am looking for opinions on what would be the best company to use and for a reasonal price. I want them to be able to handle this time of use:

All advance and comments are welcome!
Thanks Sam

fit the britpart heavy duty standard hieght yellow spring and gas shockers ,i use on my v8 it handles really well not too hard but you dont get thrown over the road on rough roads and the whole kit 4 shockers and 4 springs less than£200

Play in the steering indicates worn steering components. Don't listen to anyone that says 'they all do that', if the components are in good condition then the steering can be as tight as any vehicle on the road.
'Drifting' is more than likely to be a result of the raised suspension & larger tyres (what size & type are they?). I am not a fan of raised suspension at all so perhaps am slightly biased but droping it back down and fitting a standard size (265/75x16 was the largest LR fitted) will make it handle very well, especially if the rest of the suspension is in good condition as well.

****part!!!!!!

who recommends them

A very well informed statement with lots of facts thrown in for good measure, please give us more of your wisdom!:D

Been fitting Britpart spares on & off for many years and never had one fail on me yet. There are times I go for genuine and others when I go for aftermarket, when it comes to non-genuine I have fitted Britpart, Allmakes, Bearmach & other OE parts and never been let down.

I fitted a britpart oil filter. It lasted about 20 miles before it started spewing oil out. No it wasn't cross threaded or anything, it was just ****. Had to go and fetch a proper one from a real manufacturer (OEM).

had you left inner seal on filter head ,britpart arent a manufacturer they are a wholesaler the chances are that most genuine and oe people get is from britpart, there yellow spring kits are very good do you have alot of experience of them i have fitted lots of kits and everyone has been very pleased with performance most thought they were better than more expensive kit they had before

"Britpart arent a manufacturer they are a wholesaler"

Exactly, do people think they have a shed out the back making all their parts? Many of their parts are manufactured by the OE manufacturer and are marked as such (manufacturers markings in castings, stamps etc). Others are pattern parts and should be sold as such but unfortunately some dealers try to push EVERY part as OE.

I have had a probelm with Crossland filters leaking oil (just a drip) and it turned out to be a faulty batch (I bought several at one go). What did Britpart say when you sent your filter back for inspection & refund?

Although you have had a good experience with Britpart, the same cannot be said for alot of other people.

Regardless of whether they are a distributor or not, they are responsible for selling the part and making sure it's of a good standard before doing so.

They don't do this.

More than enough times have we heard or read on these pages the complete cock ups Britpart have made by supplying parts which are no where near good enough or even close to the original part in quality or standards.

It doesn't happen overnight, the way in which people shun a particular brand is due to bad publicity, publicity which comes from those that have used the products and found them not to be of good quality or even the correct size.

Britpart have been dubbed ****part for a reason, they're failure to keep on top of the quality ( or lack ) of the goods distributed by them has been shown time and time again.

paul they do sell some **** as well as most of the oe and genuine you buy there is only 3 suppliers every part supplier gets them from the same places wherever you go ,its down to the suppliers who in competeing with each other create a need for ever cheaper parts ,britpart supply genuine parts but your offered only the cheap **** . i know because i have accounts with them all as well and i have customers that think my parts are better or worse than others eventhough we are getting them from the same place,as i have said before i can buy genuine timken wheel brgs for £5,its a sads world nowadays ,they shouldnt sell some **** pattern parts but there rational is that they do a large range and the pattern parts where for specific sales but suppliers in competeing have neglected there proper parts and just sell the budget

How many times have you heard that people won't buy Britpart because they have heard they are poor quality and not that they have actually experienced it themselves, more often than not I suspect? A few people making a lot of noise, just like the single issue political pressure groups.
They are a large company supplying a lot of parts, if they were as bad as a few people make out they would have gone out of business a long time ago. If as many of the parts they sell were as faulty as a few people make out then people wouldn't buy their parts again, the fact is that the parts don't fail and people do go back and buy them again (and again, and again), they have a choice but don't take it, I wonder why? There are other suppliers out there, in ****part world everyone should be buying parts from alternative suppliers but they don't.

I think the britpart argument is done isn't it.:( Last bit I got off them were a pair of sidelights. The bulbs won't stay in them they just come loose and don'r work as a result. And don't ask me about the crossmember for me 110:mad:

Thanks for all the input guys.
I think i might go for the Britpart Super Gaz suspension because of watching the video and watching what it can take and how it handles. The budget isnt a real problem but it would be nice to keep it a reasonable price. What other brands/ products which will be up to the task?

I never sent it back. It was something like £1 from paddocks so I wasn't using £10 of fuel taking it back.

They might take that sort of treatment... once.

My uncle has Pro comp +2 dampers and bearmach +2 heavy duty springs and they are a very good ride.

Some stuff is good surprisingly cheap other stuff is not so good I think Paddocks themselves have lost the plot of late sending wrong parts, or them having batch problems. Paddocks used to be so very good 15 years ago seems theyre not as good as they used to be. All that said Who else do you go to? I'm trying Landroverpartsshop but have yet to recieve my parts ordered last week. Paddocks would have been here but probably sent me the wrong (Early skinny) radius arm bushes for the millionth time.

i would be surprised if you regreted it ,i ve used and fitted them for years ,i did have a procomp fastening stud break before
