I'm a motorcyclist as well
1/4" bsp
So I checked it this morning and yes it is leaking, probably 3 or 4 drips a day, so I'm going to try and fix it next weekend.
If the bolt is 1/4" bsp then what size do I want to need to tap it out with? Sorry bit of noob when it comes to tapping things.
Any help is appreciated
1/4 bsp is 13mm ish diameter ,so 13 mm recoil kit or drill out to 14mm and tap 16mmSo I checked it this morning and yes it is leaking, probably 3 or 4 drips a day, so I'm going to try and fix it next weekend.

no James said a recoil this is a Special thread that is like a spring with a tool to insert it read again !I think I will put in a drain plug in when I fix it. I was just looking at them.
So I need to drill the whole with a 14mm bit then tap with a 16mm and put in a 16mm drainplug. I think I can handle that! I really don't want to bugger it up as taking the sump off in the street outside my house will be a major pain in the arse!
Thanks again for the help.
thread sizes are not my strong point I know its a 19mm hex bolt so i guess whatever Equivalent thread size to that bolt anyone ?? Probably is sumpYes I did indeed put a new washer on it. I think the only thing I can do is drain it and have a look to see if it's the bolt or the thread. I fear it will be the thread
The next size up of repair kit is M15 Laser 5227 - M15 x 1.5 Oil Sump Repair Kit - Machine Mart
I don't know if that is going to be too big though??
yea I forgot there is two sizes for a defender you can go bigger obviously but not smaller look up recoil kit then you can choose of have a choice of differnt sizes in the kitIt's 1/4" BPS which equates to about 13mm as far as I can work out. That's why I thought the M15 kit should do it? I don't want to make the situation worse for myself
