Just fitted some wheel spacers, didn't have any axle stands so did it on the jack

Fronts went on OK , then I did the back, torqued the bolts up gently and I felt it rock , I'd stuck wooden blocks in front of the wheels but it's was obviously not enough so I quickly put the wheel back on.

Just as I got the last nut finger tight it rolled off the jack:eek:

By then it was 5pm so rang a mate who had some axle stands, sorted without further incident

Tomorrow I'm buying some axle stands

Happened to me many many years ago. Working on a Vauxhall Viva at the roadside and had raised the car at the back on a scissor jack. I was lying under the car fitting a new brake pipe along the back of the axle and the jack started to slowly tilt. I was too far under the car to guarantee being able to get out in time before the jack fell over, so I laid on the floor, doing a horizontal bench press on the back axle and shouting at the top of my voice for someone to help.

Thankfully my dad heard and he pushed the car in the alternative direction too the way the car was falling and I scrambled out.

30+ years on and I have never worked on a vehicle without chocks and axle stands.

It worries me so much when I jacked the back of the disco up to change bearings on both hubs I had a jack under the diff 2 axel stands and two other trolley jacks one each side of the wheel and 4 breeze blocks chocking the front wheels

Bit overkill but it's safe :)

LOL, just arrivded to help Stutab with his RRC to find it on the floor. And Stu a bit shaken.

We have been replacing the front hockey sticks and he was wrestling a bolt through, bearing in mind that the wheels were off and it was in te air, it fell OFF the axle stands supporting the chassis rails.

Fortunatly all was well and we got it back on the stands with the HighLift and got the hockey sticks, track rod, diff guard and steering column reconnected. then back on its wheels!

Engine out tomorrow :)

Did similar trying to wrestle an axle back on the series, dropped the whole land sideways into my neighbours house with one mighty crash. Scared the shizzle out of me, other way and I'd be dead... Neighbour was cool with it thankfully
