I might be purchasing a rotten td5 to strip, as I'm more used to dismantling tdi's anyone know if there's much difference.
I usually cut the doors and bonnet off, disconnect the fuel, brakes and rad then cut through the 14 bolts holding the body to the chassis and trailer it to the scrappers to get the body weighed in leaving easy access to the engine and running gear.
Is this the same on a td5? Also apart from the engine, transmission and axles is there much else worth saving for eBay?

Just thinking if you want to sell the bits and get a bit more cash, the IDM is behind the fuse box.

The BCU's, fuse box and IDM are known failure points, plus the ECU is worth saving with the engine. shoould not be hard to get out and save before scrapping the rest of the body, also the cup holder and ashtray is worth £15 if it is in good knick.

If the roof lining is in good condition worth saving and selling to someone who has a saggy one.

If you've got nothing to do sometime, it might be worth a quick scan of the forum to see where people have the most trouble and picking out those bits, such as the RF receiver for the central locking (behind the headlining, just in front of the rear sunroof), then there are bits like the SLS compressor under the floor beneath the passenger's seat.
There are loads of bits which if they work might be usful to remove, the amplifier under the passenger's seat, the CD unit under the driver's seat, plus the radio head unit (if you have the code), A/C controller, clock, binnacle switches. All have a value.
Under the bonnet, there are things like the ABS modulator and so on.
BTW the IDM is the "Intelligent Driver's Module" but that frankly is a bit of a misnomer in most cases! :confused::D
