Hi all,

It seems to be one thing after another with the old lass at the moment and the new problem i have got is doing my nut in!

When driving changing gear etc everything is fine, when i come off the gas and coast it makes a awful noise but that goes as soon as i take up driving again,

I have searched high and low to find the answer and im stumped!

Can anyone narrow it down a bit for me???

Sniffmydiff you should be ashamed of yourself with a handle like that - UJ stands for universal joint and you'll find two on the front propshaft and one on the rear.

They should all have grease nipples, so give them a good greasing plus the nipples on the sliding part of the propshafts.

I have been under the old lass today and checked her UJ's there dosent seem much wrong, i can turn propshaft 1\4 inch each way by hand but no play and solid as a rock, i did however find this on the back end of the rear prop where it enters the back axel, now im not sure what it is or if its direct result of a UJ failing but im sure it shouldnt be buggered like this, so my question is what is it and could it be the cause of my bad noise lol

it's a propshaft doughnut, instead of a u/j on the back prop and yes it will most likely be the cause of your noise. change it asap or else it will fail and the noise will change to that of the propshaft hitting the chassis/underbody/road repeatedly

Yes mate, that is your rubber doughnut and I have never seen one that shâgged !!!!

It needs replacing imediately or horrible things will start to happen !!!!

Cheers for the link, ordered one and fitted it today! the bolts took a full can of penetrating oil and a blow torch to get off but fitted the new one tourqed it all up and runs noise free and smooth as a button!

I've had a similar grinding vibrating sort of noise when over 50mph and just coast ing..

I've changed all my UJ's but it sounds like a transfer box issue. It seems worse when I run with diff lock on.

Next thing in my mind is a output bearing?? But it's odd it only makes a noise with an equilibrium throttle amount applied.. any help???
 
what is an equilibrium throttle amount?

also when you say you run with diff lock on, what do you mean? are you using diff lock over 50mph?

Equilibrium throttle amount.. when your not accelerating nor decelerating your in an equilibrium sort of state, a constant speed on flat ground kinda.

.. yes.... i was over 50mph with diff lock on... im scared now... btw I only bought my landy two months ago.. ive only gained diff lock...

Ive ran a BMW with a welded diff before...

I feel like im going to be told off....

Why did you have diff lock on? was it slippery? not read a max speed for diff lock to be used, just seemed a little high for using it when it would normally be used when the conditions are a bit slippery.

which diff was welded? diff lock only works on the ctr diff on a disco.
