I just changed my tensioner bearing to stop the screaming-sorted.(skf 6203 rs)
If you want something to nosh your belts,I send you some biodiesel-eats belts a treat including cambelts when the i/p seal went.

Yeah but Richard the surely if any of them were fubared then surely the wd40 wouldnt have stoped the noise....

kyle

WD40 is a lubricant, it could make the belt slip a bit so it doesn't put as much load on the bearings.

What you could do is remove the belt and clean it and clean all the pulleys. There may be lots of gunk in the grooves on the alternator pulleys. While you have the belt off you can check for play in the pulleys

Right update,

I had the belt of today and can say that there is a fair bit of play in the tensioner pulley bearing. Also there is minimal play in the water pump bearing, but none in the alternator, is there any other way to check the water pump itself?

kyle

UPDATE. Have tried the baby powder on belt trick and guess what, its stopped the belt squeal...!!!! lol

Ooooooo you quick Matt, is it just because your happy your disco is not all alone tonight in a dark barn, bless it. :D

I didn't think every TDi owner has to carry out the 'penny trick' is what I had in mind and ment..... ;)

I am quite chuffed that this aft' I sorted my headlights, changed the rear discs & pads and fixed my leaky PS but still a bit ****ed at myself for being so heavy handed and shearing the bleed nipple:(

You'd have the look on a mechanics face last week when I showed him the penny in my engine, was priceless:D.
