stop solenoid switch

me mate has just wired up a switch to his stop solenoid and hidden the switch,so unless ya turn on the switch the landy wont start..

he says he will do mine for me..
is it worth doin?...i know it wont stop the tea leaves but anything that slows them down can only be a good thing cant it?

sound good idea, just dont forget its there and call aa cos it wont start will you.

I've got a hidden switch fitted in line with the crank position sensor on my TD5. If you dont know its there it wont start no matter what you do as the ECU has no idea what position the engine is in. I've also got one fitted in the power feed to the fuel pump. I'm not paranoid just dont want to make things easy for the chancers.

If you've got a lockable steel cubby box, it's a good idea to mount the switch inside.

Thats where iv got mine, i extended the 12v feed wire that goes to the pump into an old interior light switch on the dash!

If they manage to hot wire the ignition itl just turn over. I cant see the theiving ****s thinking to switch on that ha!

I was gonna do the same thing put an in-line switch on the stop solenoid feed.
And one of those red pozzi battery cable plug/ switch thing that the name escapes me!
I agree anything that slows the ****s down can only be a good thing.

Did you need to use a relay to switch the pump, or was the current low enough to go straight to the switch??

me and a mate cut our stop solanoid wires in the engine bay and attached bullet connectors so you can actually take the wire out the vehicle when its parked up.

You wouldn't be able to show how and where they (stop solenoid wires) are would you?

Its the wire going into the back of the fuel pump. What engine you got? my mates got a 300 and i got a 200. its easy to find then just trace it as far back as you can get before it goes into the bulkhead. just make sure if you do cut it you leave yourself enough to get a crimp on both ends!

Cheers for the info, im gonna do a td5 dash conversion in a few weeks so i'll wire it up to a hidden switch somewhere whilst all the wires are nice and accessible. Just a question, would it be reccomended to use a relay to complete the circuit, or would i be fine simply wiring it direct? Also would it matter (i.e. mess up my engine) if i forgot about pressing the switch and turned the ignition, i doubt it would but just thought i'd check?

shouldnt have to put a relay in. no it wont, all you do is turn the engine over on the starter motor.

Sorry for late reply mate! You dont need a seloniod, i wired the wire straight to the switch and has worked just fine

Hmm.

So Basically get that cut, crimped and ready for removal as and when / insert a switch.

When i get me landy back mate il take some pics, its having a clutch fitted! Really didnt fancy taking me gearbox out again lol!

Iv covered the actual wire up with the black plastic protector now so theres no signs of any joins in the wire (And looks neater!)

You basically chop the wire in half and extend it through your bulkhead to a switch! My theory is it wont stop the thieves who are serious about nacking your landy as anything you put in thier way wont stop them if they want it but it will stop the opportunist thieving scum outside the shops when youve nipped in for some milk!
