Can I remove the drive shaft from the final drive without a special tool ??? If not were can i get one
Yes you can. You'll need a large screw driver, or prybar. Just lever the prybar against the casing and the joint and the joint will pop out. It's only held in with a C clip. Can I remove the drive shaft from the final drive without a special tool ??? If not were can i get one
Cheers just don't want to be knackering owt elseYes you can. You'll need a large screw driver, or prybar. Just lever the prybar against the casing and the joint and the joint will pop out. It's only held in with a C clip.
Looks like it is quite chassis number specific for the rear constant velocity joints.Sometimes the drive shafts pop out easy other times they take a bit more effort - I think its probably just the luck of how you line your lever up.
The outer CVs may not have changed at MY 01. As said above, the ABS systems went from Wabco (-2000) to Teves Mk20 (2000-2002) to Teves Mk25 (2002-).
The Wabco and Mk20 were passive systems and the Mk25 an active system - or the other way round - or indeed different names - but definitely the Mk25 was different to the Wabco and Mk20.
Therefore be careful which drive shaft components you get - its not just a MY01 change. Have a look on this page at part number 4...

Good question - its all very simple - but very confusing! My chassis code is 1A
How would I find the MY Code
How do I find if my viehcle is MY or LN
Just tryed that link I can't get on itGood question - its all very simple - but very confusing!
Its the part of the VIN number.
For example my VIN number is SALLNABB7XA652178 - so I believe the number people talk about (eg the YA change or what ever) is the XA652178 part.
Analysis of my VIN returns....
SAL Manufacturer code: Land Rover
LN Model: Freelander
A Wheel base: 100.6 inch, standard trim
B Body type: 5-door station wagon
B Engine type: 2.0 litre Td4 turbodiesel (L series)
7 Steering and transmission: Right-hand drive (RHD), 5-speed manual (LT85, LT77, LT77S, R380 or other)
X Model year: 1999
A Assembly location: Solihull, UK
652178 Serial number
That's as listed by http://www.clifton.nl/index.html?calvin.html
Works for me. Takes some time for the page to display.Just tryed that link I can't get on it
MY in the automotive industry means Model Year so MY 2001 is a vehicle that was released for sale at the beginning of 2001, or late 2000.My chassis code is 1A
How would I find the MY Code
How do I find if my viehcle is MY or LN
On that info mine is part no tdj000020MY in the automotive industry means Model Year so MY 2001 is a vehicle that was released for sale at the beginning of 2001, or late 2000.
Here's and example of mine.
My full chassis number is in blue. ☆SALLNABE15A47---4☆ The important characters are in red. I've replaced 3 numbers - for security.
These are the relevant part No's though.
To 1A 323599 use TDJ100470
From 1A 323600 To (V) 1A 999999 use TDJ000020
From 2A 000001 use TDJ000060
From 2A onwards, there is no ABS ring fitted to the joint. The reluctor was moved to the bearing instead. This was at the same time the active ABS sensors were fitted, along with the Teves MK25 ABS modulator.
So if your new joint is listed as being for 1A323600 chassis onwards, and it has the ring fitted, then it is the correct one. If your chassis number is 1A323599 or earlier, then you need the early joint.
