Afternoon all,
As subject says, my lt77 on my 90 has suddenly got stiff as anything to get into gears. Clutch is working OK although slightly juddering but I'll explain that in a sec.

Checked the oil the other day, full up to the point it dribbled when I checked it. Then drove 60 miles, absolute nightmare when I came off motorway trying to change down, pulling out of gear is stiff but pulling into gear feels like there isn't even a gear there, but I can't feel anything moving while I'm pulling it like if the clutch wasn't fully down, plus no grinding! So yeah, changed oil which looked OK even though plug had a fair bit of metal on it, gears changed beautifully driving about town for half hour then following day (today) the gears were almost impossible to get into!

Did violets lane ford about month ago, ever since then she judders when I pull away or reverse until she's warmed up.

Am I need a new box? Normally shifts lovely!

One thing after another! Grrrr

have you checked the level of oil since you changed it?

I have tried atf in mine which is ok in winter but in hot weather was far too thin and caused some grinding in the gears, I stick to mtf94 now and have no probs.

Yeah the levels are fine, it is weird that the day it started doing it was a warm one. But today the engine was cold and it did it after a minute or two. Is it worth taking the morning off and trying mtf94? Garage I used for clutch said it sounds like layshaft, make sense?

does it feel like lever or gears,in that lever /linkage and top extentsion housing allright ,its not unknown for aliminum housing to crack in front of hi/low housing ,have you checked bias springs holding lever into 3rd/4th alignment ,it would be unusual for all gears to baulk which is incorrect alignment of synchros due to worn dog teeth and baulk rings, layshaft has nothing to do with gear change

It feels like lever, doesn't grind though, except when its being a sod getting it into gear reverse grinds like a beach! If the engine isn't running I can shift gears easy. What can I do to narrow the problem down? Really is weird!

Oooooh fantastic, didn't know it could be adjusted, I take it that's under the top plate, I know what I'm doing at 5am in the morning! Seriously hope that's what it is, thanks again mate!

I had this same problem on an lt77 in a 93 disco years ago and it was the ball cup set up seizing on on the bottom of the gear lever, not the very bottom but the ball it pivots around if that make sense.
I remember stripping the top half of the cup off and greasing it all up and was fine from then on.
Only happened after a long run when box got really hot was fine otherwise.

Thanks so much guys, you were right James, popped off the cover on the clutch mc bright and early this morning and the two locking nuts on the rod were spinning loose together and had moved all the way up, spun them down about an inch and nipped them up and all is now awesome!

Can't beat that feeling when you fix something that someone has told you was going to cost an arm and a leg!!
