Hi Guys, Looking to upgrade stereo in 2010 Freelander 2 - I have the separate alpine amplifier and sub - parking sensors but no nav unit. I think I have the answers to most of the upgrade issues BUT for this I need to wire the speaker outs from the head unit to the rear amplifier using a amp bypass cable. -

Could someone point me in the right direction for best way to route speaker cables from the head unit to the existing rear amplifier?
 
What spec HU do you have? Do you have the factory amp and sub?
If so all the vehicle speakers are supplied from the amp, the HU is just a CD player and control unit.

How have you got round the PDC issues if you are replacing the factory HU?
 
Factory cables run under both door sills from front to back, and back to front, depending on what each individual cable is for. From memory the audio MOST ring runs up the RH side.

Using a vehicle specific conversion loom from incartec - Includes PDC interface - Steering wheel control adapter - optical bypass etc etc.
All above done behind head unit - Just leaves the hassle of connecting new headunit to old speakers -

Unfortunately "Amplifier bypass cable" needs to be run from head unit to the rear amplifier location (to connect in to existing speakers) - assume from comments sills should have plenty of space?

Yes I am going to loose the sub functionality (for now) will be looking at upgrading that at a later date with seperate amp.

Sounds like a whole lot of work to me, especially as the factory audio system isn't exactly rubbish.

Only have rear paking, this will be thro speaker in dash. I currently only have radio and cd. No Bluetooth music no navigation. And given the fact you can't touch phone when driving now ruled out any sort of aux in.
Needs must with the upgrade.. Sure it won't take too long..

So the sound from the rear sensors is going to come out an aftermarket speaker in the front. :confused:
For someone used to front and rear PDC, that could take some getting used to.
Mine has front and rear PDC, and the sound comes from the end which it's referring too, so close to the back and the sound is in the back, close at the front makes the sound at the front, the tone pitch between front and rear are also different.

No Freelander had Bluetooth audio, although Bluetooth phone call connectivity was an option, and can be retrofitted too.
Mine has a 6 disc CD player with MP3 playback capability (you can get several hours of music per CD), I also have BT phone connection, FM and DAB radio, and a 3.5mm audio jack as an aux input.

Ok it's not the most modern unit in the world, but with about 400 Watts on tap, I can't think I'd need more, at least not while I've got the vehicle, and my OCD couldn't deal with messing with the factory system.

How does an aftermarket unit turn on and off?

I had to laugh as I saw your post from a few years ago fitting sub into the boot! - Nice job!

400W?? Just ordered the Pioneer 1600W amplifier to add to the build - Will be sure to add pics - Finger crossed will go smoothly next week fitting it all.

Thanks. It was entertaining to do, but to be honest the factory FL2 system isn't much different in performance. Ok the factory sub doesn't go so low at just a shade under 40hz, but it's not too bad. I I'm thinking of improving the low end response, as the sub does run out of puff before the mids and tweeters do, but I'm not going to go mad, and definitely won't want a sub box in the boot space. I'm still mulling it over at present.

I've done some pretty good ICE installs over the years, but now I'm just happy with good performance.

Definitely looking forward to seeing your upgrade progress. ;)
