Steel wheels (sorry)

I know, there are loads of questions that mention them, but a lot of difference of opinion and I'd like the facts if possible.

I know my V6 has larger brake callipers and drums than other models so not all wheels will fit. But I've seen posts saying that all steel wheels will fit, which is a bit confusing.

I've seen these on fleabay; the seller doesn't know the car they came from.
If they were just down the road I probably wouldn't care.

Otherwise there are these. I contacted the site but they won't get back for a while and I'd like other views anyway.

The reason? I'm looking at a winter set of tyres, so spare set of wheels seems to make sense.

All models from 2001MY on have larger brakes, not just V6.
Steel wheels fit all variants.
According to the drivers handbook, 15" wheels, steel or alloy, cannot be fitted to 2006MY with the higher GVW.
Edit- that should be aren't fitted, I assume due to 15" tyre loading rates.

The internal shape of the steels is different to the alloys, hence they've a bigger internal circumference so fit over the bigger brakes.

Check the GVW on the onset in your car.

If it is 2505kg then LR don't recommend fitting them. If it is 2080kg then you are fine.

I have a feeling it's 2505 (isn't the 3 door 2080?)

Actually I'm ok.
2505 is the 2006+ TD4.
The 2001 V6 I have is 2060, although that varies slightly depending where you look!

It will be fine, heavy V6 or not!

I like the look of the steel wheel, they are 'styled' and have used different tyres over the years,
see attachment Left to Right, Goodyear, Bridgestone, Kumho

Sometimes lugging heavy payloads ~ 500kgs, never had a problem

The downside is 15" wheels with standard 5.5" (195) tyres will not handle as well as 17" rims with 7" (215) low profile tyre. Less grip and more roll when cornering, if you drive sensibly and according to conditions, you'll be fine.

If we all listened to LR recommendations, we'd all be driving on nothing but Pirelli or Goodyear tyres

Like the look of that Kumho (snicker!)

For future reference, tyresdirectuk.co.uk do wheel and tyre packages, some of which work out cheaper than just tyres at a highstreet fitter!
