just put a light bulb (5w) in between the small wire and ground. see if it lights up when the starter is energised,

Wire straight from battery to little wire, it will engage and turn over or not.

What colour is it? Or am I missing the point?

The Maxi fuse went 30a I had someone come round to have a look at it the fuse is shared between the starter and the air ride pump, he thinks its the pump, 15 secs after it kicks in, the fuse blows, if you undo the plug from the pump, then it starts fine without blowing the fuse, also it (for that 15 seconds) isn't charging the tank and not blowing air out of the pump, he thinks its a negative short
