So basically my becm is knackered?????
.
I'm not saying your becm is knackered, the only way to confirm what the problem is, is to diagnose, just like you did with the relay test, ie you confirmed the problem is not downstream of the fuse box. The engine could still be immobilised and by checking the check engine light status with the ign on you can confirm if it is or not. Likewise check if the display says P when you are in park otherwise the engine won't crank.

If the engine is immobilised, wont it show up on the dash as being immobilised? I will check for the p displayed next time I look. I know today I tried it in 4 wheel drive park and still the same. Then later on as I was changing it back to 2 wheel drive it it said select nuetral. Obviously as I didnt give it chance to change back to 2wd. Thats the trouble where do I go from here? Ive got power to the starter motor from the fuse box, and I have two positive feeds out of four to the relay. So my next option was to check feed at back of the barrel, but if you say the becm picks up a 'pulse' from the barrel instead of power, I cant check that, so in theory I have a dodgy ecu or wiring from the barrel to ecu knackered.
Unless the circuit runs fuse box, to ecu, to starter, in which case mny ecu is ok?
Or its really bad wiring and its blown all the other relays I swapped the original one for?

Matt it could be that the ECU has lost synch with the becm it is a common problem and can happen for a number of reasons it does not mean that the becm is knackered and as davidg says you need to follow through with the diagnosis at the becm put your location in as there maybe someone close by with a syncmate which is a little box to resynch becm and engine ecu cost about 80 quid from memory - when it is suggested it needs to be resynched this is what people are talking about not the key fob good luck

It's not a "pulse" from the lock barrel, it's the application of a ground or earth level as opposed to applying 12 volts to activate. So the line will be sitting at 12 volts, then when you turn the key to start the line will be grounded and should read 0 volts to earth. As already suggested you can follow all this through at the BECM connections. It's unlikely to be the actual BECM IMO but it's worth trying a re-sync.

If the car is still in an armed state and the becm has not seen an unlock signal from the remote handset or you have not used the EKA code, then when you try and crank the engine you will get the message "Engine Immobilised" / "Press Remote" / "Or Enter Keycode" message . If the alarm has been unlocked with with hanset or eka code and you try and crank the engine you won't see this message, even if the gems ecu has not received the security signal from the becm. If the gems does receive the code from the becm, then the gems will remain immobilised. With a gems ecu, it is very easy to see if it is immobilised, if the amber check engine light comes on with ignition on, then gems is happy and it is not immobilised. If the lamp does not come on, then the becm will inhibit cranking and the gems will inhibit fueling.

Right, think Ive got the plot now, so basically it could be a case of the ecu loses communication with the becm? And if so the becm would be unlocked through the key fob but because the becm cant find the ecu to say its had the key code the ecu will still be immobilised hence why I wont receive any message on the dash, as the becm controls the dash side and the ecu controls engine side??? Is that right ish.... So if I havent got an engine light on ignition start up the ecu isnt contacting the becm to tell it, it has scanned for engine faults besically??? Ive decided Im going to have to get someone out to check for fault data anyway. Which if they are any good they should be able to re sync the two ecus shouldnt they??? Ive also been recommended to Ultimate Landrover in Netherton, which will be plan b if a so called land rover specialist auto electrician acant solve it. Anyone had any dealings with Ultimate Landrover??

Hi Matt

Ultimate Land Rover are very good, always very helpful if you ring them and will go through various things for you to try first before you having to take the car into them.

My mother in law had her car sorted with them and always found them really good and I have spoken to them on the phone and they are really good for helping you to problem solve.

Be aware though if you do need to book it in they do have a bit of a wait as they are always busy so it may be a few days before they can.

Hope you get it sorted.

Matt
