right! decided to start fitting my southdown snorkel yesterday pauld,so went to get a few bit's before i started and got well and truly financialy raped on the way home''my clutch fork decided to spit it's dummy out £400 to sort it with hd everything so it will have to wait till next weekend now!!

anyway! decided to have another read through this very helpfull how to you've made for us and brilliant'another top tip regards rivnuts, ive got a bag of about 50 sat in the bottom of my tool box but refused to pay the ridiculus price for a tool to fit them many many thank's for the tip mate.

and yes the self tappers that are supplied are crap so wont even bother with them now,i did spend half an hour this morning trying to get the wing moulding off until i read the destructions that came with it:doh: that'll teach me:rolleyes: autosol also cleans it up nice mate it also fetches off all the manufacurers codes that are printed down the back of it,cant find any of that sticky stuff you used though' the stealers round here dont carry it in stock and only get it in when they need it'any alternative's?

oh! one last thing'where did you get those plastic plugs you used in the airbox if you dont mind my asking.

Any automotive sealant would do I guess .. but I got mine off ebay .. ;) The plastic plugs I used are some I've had for ages from a project at work, pm me an address and I'll put a few in an envelope for you. ;)

rivnuts - yu can use a bolt, a couple of washers and a nut - Trewy has a good description somewhere.

the other answer, especially where water is concerned, is to use rubber nuts - not as daft as it sounds ;) look at this link.

Hey good write up and pics.

I did mine the other month but didn't have a dremel, used my normal sized angle grinder to cut out a big hole within the marked area then a pair of snips to finish off...

Not exactly pretty but it worked and had the disco in deep and all was ok.

JP, that wading kit looks good, did you just fit in, and route it all to the engine bay and then up to the top of your snorkel? Got any pics?

Cheers

Actually I've had a think and I'm not going to do a 'breathing' wading plug, no need ... just do as I do now and put 'em in if I think it's going to need it, take 'em out the rest of the time!

;)

According to the Landrover manual, they can be left in - just removed every 6000 miles to allow anything to drain.

I'm trying to pluck up courage to do a DIY B&Q Snorkel to my, was mint before I scratched it laning, Disco.

Feels a bit permanent cutting a hole in the wing, and not yet sure what my insurance will think of it - that may rule it out anyway.

its either gonna be a tool for laning or not, spare wings an idea but what about damage etc u may pick up along ur travels? if u want to keep it how it is now buy another just for playing with, if u want to diy a snorkel i'll give u a hand... just bring ya disco up the yard and tek it from there :)

why dont ya get a spare wing , so yu can always return it to "standard" if you want. They is cheap enuf - loads of peeps scrapping Discos.

I like that idea :D

Still unsure at the mo.....insurance will be the decider.

I can't justify a 'play only' Disco...it has to get me to work as well. And so also needs business insurance....hence my possible problem with insurance.

I've just re-insured mine and none of the inscos asked about the air intake .. only about suspension mods, tyres/wheels, enfine tuning etc etc ... and I also have it insured for business use.

I can feel happy vibes :D

Just chatting on the phone with the disco's previous owner (my Dad) and he was just "so how are you going to fit it!" ....tho he also mentioned insurance of course.

Guess a wading plug might be a good idea as well - and a lot easier :D

well finally got mine fitted Paul D,see what you mean about routing the flexi pipe through the wing' kinel don't want to do that again in a hurry.

hope you dont mine me putting my pics on your thread.
